Breakthrough solution to increase international publication of young staff and researchers

Attending the Workshop, in addition to the Board of Directors, heads of departments and faculties in the School, the Workshop also welcomed Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu (Director of the Asian Research Support Center - ARC).

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Principal of the School) emphasized that the current demand for international publication of young staff and PhD students of the school is very large, both supporting PhD students to complete their documents to be able to defend, standardizing academic titles and degrees for young staff in the school, promoting scientific research activities and international publication.

In her welcoming speech, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu highly appreciated the significance of the workshop in providing breakthrough solutions to help overcome difficulties in international publication of young staff and PhD students today; ARC Center commits to always accompany and actively support the scientific research and publication activities of lecturers, students and pupils in the School.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong introduced the main contents of the Workshop: The Workshop took place in 2 sessions: morning and afternoon of March 11, 2022 to listen to the opinions exchanged from functional departments and faculties on the publication status of young staff and PhD students of each unit; as well as opinions from young staff and PhD students themselves on their needs and difficulties in the process of publishing research articles in international journals in the recognized list. On that basis, the Workshop proposed a number of breakthrough solutions to facilitate and support the international publication activities of young staff and PhD students more effectively. Because in reality, international publication has become a mandatory requirement for PhD students as well as staff in faculties.

In the consultation comments from the functional departments (Training, Scientific Research Management, Personnel Organization), the urgency of this workshop was emphasized, pointing out the current situation of the quantity and quality of international publications of young staff as well as PhD students, and at the same time proposing some solutions. According to information from the representative of the Training Department, nearly 200 PhD students urgently need to have articles published in newspapers to complete their defense dossiers; some PhD students also have publications but mainly published by groups of authors and are not included in the list of journals with high scientific prestige, especially the list in the training regulations of Hanoi National University. Some solutions were proposed at the Workshop: strengthening connections with foreign universities and publishers for academic exchange and publishing support; increasing information sharing about international scientific conferences organized by the Faculties in the school so that PhD students in other faculties can participate; Enhance the responsibility of supervisors and strong research groups,...

Representatives of the faculties in the school also shared: not only the PhD students and young staff, but also many staff in the faculty need to have published articles to standardize academic titles and degrees. Based on the publication status of the units, the faculties shared many experiences and solutions such as: needing to increase support from functional departments, enhancing the role of the instructors and postgraduate managers in the faculties from identifying research problems to how to conduct a qualified article for international publication. At the same time, representatives of the faculties also expressed their determination to accompany the PhD students and young staff in the best preparation for the International Conference to take place in July 2022, as well as in upcoming academic activities.

The workshop also listened to the sharing from the PhD students and young staff: all opinions highly appreciated the significance of the workshop, this will be a great opportunity for the PhD students to complete their defense documents and participate in scientific research activities and international publications in the coming time. In addition, some opinions also raised concerns and difficulties in the international publication process, and at the same time contributed proposals to successfully organize the International Workshop in July 2022. At the workshop, representatives of the Department of Science Management recorded the opinions exchanged and answered some concerns of the PhD students and young staff.

Concluding the Workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong acknowledged the companionship, sharing and determination of all departments and faculties in the school in supporting and encouraging young departments and PhD students to participate most fully and effectively in the Workshop which will take place in July 2022 and then the publishing work after the Workshop. Based on the consultations at today's Workshop, the Department of Scientific Management will absorb them to be able to complete the Project to organize the first International Scientific Workshop for postgraduate students and young staff of the University of Science and Humanities as soon as possible to inform the Faculties and departments. The solutions proposed at today's Workshop not only address the need to complete the defense records of nearly 200 PhD students, but also contribute to enhancing the international publication work of lecturers and students of the school this year and many years to come.
