The study “Assessing policies on food security and food sovereignty – some policy implications for Vietnam” is the result of the implementation of the project “Towards a new paradigm shift in agricultural development through a Socio-Ecological Transition (SET) approach in science and policy making (A case study in Vietnam)” in cooperation between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Southeast Asia, Vietnam Representative Office and the Institute of Policy and Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 2021.
The research framework of the book is a combination of the social-ecological transformation framework and the pressure-status-response (PSR) framework to design research to assess food security and food sovereignty issues according to the indexing approach. The research has answered a series of questions: What should Vietnam do to avoid following in the footsteps of the crises of other countries?; Is Vietnam's food security a concern if the COVID-19 pandemic becomes more and more complicated?; What are the lessons learned from other countries in the world? What are the conditions for applying food security policies to Vietnam in the coming time?
In addition to presenting theories on transforming production and consumption models towards agricultural and food system development for sustainable development and adaptation to the impacts of climate change and Covid-19, the study also analyzes current policies of countries around the world, thereby proposing policy implications for Vietnam, in order to implement the project on Ensuring Food Security by 2030, which was newly issued in 2020.
The book consists of 4 chapters:
Chapter 1: Overview, theoretical basis, approach and research methods
Chapter 2: Vietnam's food security policy and food sovereignty
Chapter 3: Assessment of Vietnam's food security and food sovereignty policies based on social network analysis model and index approach
Chapter 4: Solutions to ensure food security and food sovereignty of Vietnam
The book was published by Lao Dong Publishing House in December 2021.
