Introducing the monograph "Educating children's values in the family"

Currently, many value education programs in schools, from kindergarten to high school and university, have been invested and implemented. However, family education still seems to be carried out according to the experience passed down from previous generations, and has revealed many shortcomings. In the scope of this book, we will analyze in depth some issues of value education for children in the family.

We all know that family is the first place to witness the first steps of each person, and also the last place to welcome people in old age. With such a special close bond, it can be said that family is a favorable environment and has a strong influence on the formation of each person's personality. Our ancestors have a saying: "The basket of each family, the handle of each family", "The son of the father, if not like the feathers, will also like the wings" to talk about the influence of parents on their children, not only in appearance, but also in personality. School education and social education play a very important role, but their role is only effectively promoted when taking family education as the basis. Therefore, finding out what kind of person today's parents want to educate their children to become, where they direct their children, and by what methods is what we are interested in researching.

Value education for children in the family is not a new issue. Although not called value education, in every family, grandparents and parents always guide and teach their children good and right things, things that are considered important, correct and good. The teachings and examples of parents are real lessons, deeply absorbed in the soul and follow each person throughout their life. Good traditional values of the nation such as patriotism, compassion, the spirit of learning, hard work, filial piety, humility, looking back to the roots, ... have always been cultivated by grandparents and parents and passed on to the next generation. However, in the past 20 years, especially since our country joined the WTO (January 11, 2007), the issue of value education for children has encountered many difficulties. Many families have not yet determined the goals and methods of educating values for the young generation in the context of rapid changes in the economy, culture, and society, leading to changes in the value system.

Reality shows that the authoritarian, patriarchal educational methods of grandparents and parents and the previous values are no longer completely suitable for modern society, while children accept new imported values too quickly and spread them to their peers. Generational conflicts and contradictions are increasing, children do not listen to their parents, combined with increasing work pressure, causing some parents to be confused in educating their children about values, leaving the responsibility of educating their children to schools and society. As a result, many parents cannot control the process of forming their children's values, do not understand their children, and only regret it when many unfortunate things happen.

Globalization and international integration pose many challenges for us, including the challenge of establishing a new value system and new educational methods in the family, which both inherit and promote traditional values of the nation and are consistent with the development trends of modern society.

During the compilation process, the author team has tried very hard, but certainly there are still many shortcomings. We look forward to receiving comments from researchers and readers to improve the quality of the book.
