School-wide meeting, December 2021

On December 6, 2021, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held its December monthly meeting, chaired by Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector). Also attending were the Vice Rectors, Party Secretaries, Heads of affiliated units, and leaders of various organizations and associations.
At the conference, the School's Board of Directors presented the Decisions conferring the title of "Outstanding Teacher" from the President of Vietnam and Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training to a number of staff members from the school's training and administrative units.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University) presented the Decision conferring the title of Excellent Teacher from the President of Vietnam to Associate Professor Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department) and Professor Hoang Ba Thinh (Head of the Sociology of Gender and Family Department, Faculty of Sociology).

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University) presented the Certificate of Commendation from the Minister of Education and Training to Associate Professor Do Thu Ha (Head of the Department of Indian Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies) and Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy (Head of the Administrative and General Affairs Department).
 
Next, the Conference listened to reports on the implementation of work in November 2021 and the work plan for December 2021 from the units.
Accordingly, in November, the University implemented numerous activities across four key areas: Party work, organization, and associations; training, student affairs, quality assurance, inspection, and legal affairs; scientific research, cooperation, and development; and administration, facilities, finance, and information technology. Some notable activities included: continuing to strengthen the leadership and management personnel of several units such as the Faculty of International Studies, the Faculty of Anthropology, and the Faculty of Tourism Studies; conducting the review of Professor/Associate Professor titles at the University's Professor Council in 2021; the second enrollment period and the opening of the QH-2021-X postgraduate course; summarizing the University's Quality Improvement Project for the period 2018-2021; and reviewing the procedures for organizing national and international scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops. Strengthening the Steering Committee and Secretariat of the Project on Building and Applying a Quality Management System according to ISO 9001:2015 standards; implementing guidance on developing economic and technical norms according to Government Decree 81/ND-CP on tuition fees; adjusting the School's internal expenditure regulations.

In December 2021, the school will continue to implement and launch new tasks in the aforementioned areas.
Following the report, the Conference listened to the remarks of the Vice Rectors, along with representatives from the Faculties, departments, and units under and directly affiliated with the University. All opinions agreed with the draft report prepared by the Administrative and General Affairs Department and proposed specific suggestions to further improve the effectiveness of work in December.

Associate Professor Lai Quoc Khanh (Vice Rector of the University) gave a speech on training, student affairs, inspection, and legal affairs.
 
Concluding the conference, Rector Professor Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of the units in carrying out their tasks in November, and expressed his hope that the units would continue to strive to complete the targets and tasks in December. The Rector emphasized several key tasks that need to be implemented in December:
Firstly, we will continue to strengthen disease prevention measures in light of the complex developments of the Omicron variant. The school will conduct regular Covid-19 testing for administrative staff and unit leaders to ensure their safety; the relevant departments will develop plans and timelines for administering the third dose of the vaccine to staff.
Secondly, we propose programs, projects, and research topics that reflect the unique identity of the social sciences and humanities, such as issues of ethnicity, religion, socialism, national sovereignty, the sea and islands, and Vietnamese culture, to be submitted through the Vietnam National University, Hanoi to the Government for investment, focusing on promoting and strengthening strong research groups and key research projects.

Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University) gave a speech on scientific research, international publications, and quality assurance in education.
 
Thirdly, improve the effectiveness of communication work in a systematic and in-depth manner. Units need to be more proactive in building their image and brand to increase opportunities for student recruitment, training, and scientific research. In addition, the image of the University should be disseminated to society through socially impactful activities, policies, scholarship programs, and incentives for students and postgraduate students.
Fourth, complete the summary of work in 2021 across all areas of activity of the Party, government, and mass organizations, and Party work contents according to the guidance of the City Party Committee and VNU; organize Party work conferences; combine mid-term evaluation with year-end summary and evaluation and conduct review and supplementation of planning at the units.

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University) delivered the concluding remarks at the Conference.
 
In addition, perform several other specific tasks such as:
  • Complete and issue management documents such as the Regulations on management decentralization - management operational procedures in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Internal expenditure regulations;
  • Implementing the development of electronic lectures for some basic courses to enrich the learning resource repository in accordance with the roadmap for innovation in teaching methods of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • Complete the revision and approval for promulgation of the Regulations on basic-level research topics and the Regulations on supporting international publications; plan and organize an international scientific conference for young staff and postgraduate students based on the Conference of Young Staff and Postgraduate Students to ensure timely defense of these projects;
  • Continue implementing the school evaluation activities according to schedule, and expedite the development of programs and plans for the 06 programs registered for accreditation in 2002.
  • Establish tuition fees based on economic and technical norms in accordance with Government Decree 81/2021/ND-CP dated August 27, 2021, on the mechanism for collecting, managing, and policies for tuition fee exemption and reduction for accredited training programs that are still valid.
