Results of political and ideological education, and moral and lifestyle education for union members and students.
In preparation for the 7th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Trinh Minh Thai (Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) assessed the results of political and ideological education, and moral and lifestyle education for union members and students during the 2009-2012 term. Any nation or country that wants to survive and develop must pay attention to the training, education, and nurturing of its younger generation, because they are the force that determines the nation's destiny and the country's development. Historical reality throughout the revolutionary periods has proven that our Party has always placed special emphasis on youth work, focusing on educating and nurturing young people in revolutionary ideals, enhancing their political acumen, with the goal of building generations of successors who are absolutely loyal to the ideal of national independence linked with socialism. This ideal has been concretized in each revolutionary stage into historical missions of the youth that are relevant to the times. As President Ho Chi Minh said, "Youth are the masters of the future of the country... The prosperity or decline, strength or weakness of the country depends largely on the youth. If young people want to be worthy masters of the future, they must, in the present, cultivate their spirit and strength, and work to prepare for that future." Political theory education, with its core being the education of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, to build and cultivate revolutionary ideals for youth union members, is a crucial and decisive content in training the "spirit and strength" of the younger generation for the future of the nation and the future of building socialism in Vietnam. Over the years, especially during the 2009-2012 term, the school's Youth Union has consistently focused its work on political, ideological, and cultural education for young people, actively contributing to the training and nurturing of a generation with sufficient qualities and capabilities to serve as pioneers, innovate, and continue the glorious cause of the Party, implementing industrialization and modernization for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, fairness, and civilization, and gradually advancing towards socialism. The Youth Union of the University has implemented a comprehensive range of diverse, rich, innovative, and expanded activities and learning programs to continuously cultivate and enhance theoretical awareness, thoroughly understand the revolutionary line and tasks for its members and young people; build political fortitude, strengthen faith, clearly define the responsibilities of young people in the face of the country's requirements and tasks, enhance patriotism, love for socialism, self-reliance, and the will to build a stronger and more prosperous nation. The work of propaganda, education, and the implementation of basic political theory lessons, the study and research of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, the thorough understanding of the Party's policies and resolutions, the organization of traditional activities, moral and lifestyle education, and the dissemination and education of law for young people... are consistently given attention, maintained, and developed. In particular, the Youth Union of the University advocates linking political and ideological education with building a disciplined and civilized school environment. The initial steps in building the image of a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are focused on: being professionally competent, knowledgeable, and proud of the university's rich traditions. Coordination and hosting of educational and orientation activities for union members organized by the Hanoi Youth Union and Vietnam National University, Hanoi, have also been strengthened. In addition to these activities, the University's Youth Union pays special attention to providing and guiding information to union members and students. Besides the "Voluntary" newsletter, the information support system for students through the University's Youth Tradition Room and the svnhanvan.org forum is regularly maintained. As a result, revolutionary action movements of young people, through many rich and diverse activities, have been widely organized and implemented, receiving the participation and support of a large number of union members and young people, with some activities creating a positive impact on society. Notable examples include: the "5 Good Students" program; the "Vietnamese Stance" seminar; Activities included propaganda and mobilization of union members to participate in the election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies at all levels for the 2011-2016 term; a camp, a singing competition for all university staff and students, and the program "Exchange between K54 students and alumni of the first cohort of Hanoi University" in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the tradition; "Exchange and discussion between Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and the youth of the capital"; "Meeting with 1000 young Party members"; a rally commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam... Notably, there were also activities demonstrating the initiative and creativity of the branch unions, sub-branches, and clubs such as: the "Following the Course of History" competition in 2010 organized by the History Faculty branch union; the "Understanding Ho Chi Minh's Thought" competition in 2010 and 2011 jointly organized by the Political Science, Management Science, Philosophy, and History Faculty branch unions; A film screening and exhibition of photographs and documents about Ho Chi Minh was held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his departure to seek a path to national salvation (June 3-5, 2011), organized by the Student Union of the Faculty of Law, Information Technology and Public Administration in coordination with the Student Affairs and Services Department.

As the core organization for gathering and educating young people, the Youth Union of the University has launched leading movements in building a healthy lifestyle, resolutely fighting against negative manifestations, individualism, opportunism, pragmatism, and selfishness, worthy of being a communist youth organization bearing the name of President Ho Chi Minh. Typical of these activities are the campaigns "Studying and following the example and morality of Ho Chi Minh," "Vietnamese youth studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings," and "Vietnamese youth practicing thrift," actively building advanced models for the majority of union members and students to learn from and emulate. Along with the attention and support provided by the Party Committee and the University's Board of Directors for the comprehensive development of the younger generation, it can be affirmed that union members and students have been and are upholding the heroic traditions of the nation, emulating the outstanding contributions of their forefathers, and are rapidly maturing. Thanks to the aforementioned activities, along with the training and efforts of the members, many outstanding members have been recommended by the Youth Union to the Party for consideration and admission, contributing to building the Party and the political system. During the 2009-2012 term, the University's Youth Union recommended 109 outstanding members for admission (exceeding the target of 100 outstanding members). It can be affirmed that political and ideological education, especially the education of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, and revolutionary ideals for young people, has contributed to creating generations of students with good attitudes and awareness, high political acumen, and the will to overcome difficulties, strive for self-improvement and career development, strongly promoting the revolutionary traditions, initiative, and volunteerism of previous generations of youth, including outstanding, proactive, creative, and leading members in many activities. Although significant achievements have been made in educating youth union members, it must be acknowledged that during the current period of accelerated industrialization, modernization, and deep international integration, alongside fundamental favorable conditions for learning and growth, young people also face considerable negative impacts from the downsides of development. These negative impacts inevitably lead to low levels of awareness, responsibility, organizational discipline, and discipline among a segment of young people; some have not correctly identified their revolutionary ideals, and many have even lost faith in the path chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the Vietnamese people. They lack firm belief in revolutionary ideals, are confused about class struggle, the struggle between the socialist and capitalist paths, and waver in the face of immediate difficulties facing the country. Due to a lack of confidence, a segment of young people have lost their will to strive, become afraid of difficulties and hardships, and have not fulfilled their duties as students to the university, as young people to the nation, their locality, and their families. Many young people live without ideals or purpose, pursuing or promoting a pragmatic, selfish, unrestrained, and decadent lifestyle, disregarding discipline and the law. There are many reasons for this situation, but some fundamental causes include: the negative aspects of the market economy leading to increasingly widespread social ills and an increase in social vices; corruption, bureaucracy, abuse of power, and moral and lifestyle degradation among some cadres and party members who lack self-cultivation, training, and striving, which have not been detected and prevented in a timely manner; Due to the peaceful evolution, especially the peaceful evolution in the ideological and cultural fields orchestrated by hostile forces aiming to distort the past, tarnish history, and slander the regime, young people have become disoriented, confused, uncertain, and skeptical about the regime. At times, the Youth Union has not effectively carried out political and ideological education and instilled revolutionary ideals in its members; its activities have not adequately met the needs of its members, making it difficult to unite and rally young people. This creates loopholes that enemies can exploit to incite a segment of young people into illegal activities. Stemming from the requirements and tasks of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in the period of reform, and from the reality of the socialist beliefs of our youth, political and ideological education and the cultivation of socialist beliefs among young people is a very important and urgent issue, with both immediate and long-term value. To effectively address this issue, in the coming period, the Youth Union will focus on implementing the following directional measures: Firstly, continuing to pay attention to political and ideological education, innovating and improving the quality of education on Marxist-Leninist theory, Ho Chi Minh Thought, the Party's guidelines and viewpoints, and the State's policies and laws for young people. This is the foundation for building, shaping, and developing revolutionary ideals for young people; helping them to better understand, fully and accurately, the role of Marxist-Leninist theory, Ho Chi Minh Thought, and the Party's guidelines and viewpoints in building the country according to the socialist orientation, maintaining a firm stance against the conspiracies, tactics, and subversive actions of the enemy against our revolution; thereby, motivating young people to strive to study, train, work, and be ready to contribute. Secondly, further enhance the awareness and responsibility of Party branches regarding the care and nurturing of youth in general, and the building of socialist faith in particular; continue to effectively implement the Party's Resolution 25 on youth. Thirdly, build a truly strong and comprehensive Youth Union in terms of politics, ideology, and organization; expand the gathering and unity of union members and students; strengthen education, training, and support for union members and students in all aspects, especially in building revolutionary faith, ideals, goals, and motivations for striving; and help them to be active, creative, and proactive in learning and scientific research, ready to train and strive for the revolutionary goals and ideals of the Party, for national independence and socialism, so that the Youth Union truly becomes a great socialist school for youth and a reliable reserve force of the Party. Fourth, continue to implement and organize meaningful revolutionary action movements among union members and students, thereby propagating and educating revolutionary ideals, attracting and gathering union members and students, and providing an environment for them to train and grow. Fifth, each union member and student, especially union leaders and key union officials, must strive to cultivate and improve themselves to continuously enhance their political qualities, intellectual qualities, ethics, revolutionary lifestyle, socialist belief, and work capacity.

Political and ideological education, as well as moral and lifestyle education aimed at building the character of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, is a long-term process that requires the attention and coordinated efforts of Party branches, faculty heads, the Party Committee, the University's Board of Directors, and, further, the joint efforts of families and society to cultivate a generation of young people who are both politically committed and professionally competent. This generation of young people has been, is, and will continue to strive, dedicate themselves wholeheartedly, and work diligently for the country. As the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Party clearly stated: “Do a good job in political and ideological education, instilling traditions, ideals, ethics, and lifestyles; create conditions for learning, working, recreation, and the comprehensive development of physical and intellectual abilities for the younger generation. Encourage and inspire young people to nurture great dreams and aspirations, to be pioneers in creativity, and to master modern science and technology. Form a class of outstanding young people in all fields, faithfully and excellently continuing the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation,…”
