National Policy on Modern Information and Libraries

At the invitation of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Professor Yuri Nikolaievich Stoliarov (Russian Academy of Sciences) visited Vietnam. With the approval of the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Faculty of Information and Library Science invited Professor Yuri Nikolaievich Stoliarov to visit the University and give a presentation to faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduates on the topic of "National Policy on Modern Information and Library Science". After listening to Professor Stoliarov's presentation, faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduates had the opportunity to discuss their areas of interest. Many questions were raised by faculty and students of the Faculty of Information and Library Science regarding state management policies for university information and library institutions; the management of electronic libraries and electronic information resources; and the organization of information and library activities for people with disabilities in Russia. Regarding the training program code for information and library science; the issue of document digitization and the creation of digital collections; marketing in information and library activities; and the current income and living conditions of information and library staff in Russia… Due to time constraints, at the end of the discussion, there were still about 20 questions awaiting answers from the Professor. All questions were recorded and forwarded to the Professor. During the Q&A session, Professor Stoliarov was very impressed with the openness, enthusiasm, dynamism, dedication to the profession, and passion for research of the faculty and students of the Department. The Professor promised to respond to all remaining questions as soon as possible via email. The friendly and lively exchange made both the Professor and the audience regret the short time of the meeting. At the end of the talk, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Quy, Party Secretary and Head of the Department of Information and Library Science, on behalf of the faculty, trainees, and students of the Department, thanked and presented a gift to Professor Stoliarov. Associate Professor Tran Thi Quy also expressed her wish that Professor Stoliarov and his colleagues at the Russian Academy of Sciences would wholeheartedly assist Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Dung (a lecturer in the Information and Library Science Department, currently a doctoral student in Russia) in successfully completing her graduation thesis, so that she could quickly return to contribute to the university's educational mission. She also hoped to continue receiving the cooperation of the Institute and the Professor in training and scientific research in Information and Library Science. In response, Professor Stoliarov thanked her for the warm welcome and affirmed that the vibrant working atmosphere at the Information and Library Science Department had left a deep impression and would become an unforgettable memory of Vietnam and its people in general, and of the university's teachers in particular.
