Hundreds of students and faculty members from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication attended an exchange on research methods and scientific report presentation for journalism and communication students on the evening of March 15, 2010.

This activity was organized by the Student Union of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication in response to Youth Month and as practical preparation for the upcoming Student Scientific Research Conference.

Many questions directly raised by students during the course of their scientific research projects were answered and shared by professors and senior students who had experience in scientific research.

Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Van Huong - Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication - shared with the students the benefits of scientific research as well as the necessary requirements to complete a student scientific research project.

In response to the question "How to choose a good and manageable research topic?", lecturer Phan Kien suggested that students should choose small, manageable topics for research. He also guided students on two ways to "beautify" their research topics: dividing the research content and narrowing the scope of the research.

Regarding the question of how to survey, collect information, and gather materials for scientific research, Dr. Dang Thu Huong shared that students should select information from three sources: readily available materials (internet, books, newspapers, etc.), public surveys, and direct, practical observation.

Lecturer Le Thu Ha shared ways to present PowerPoint presentations concisely, engagingly, and effectively.

While not giving a specific answer regarding the criteria for evaluating a scientific study, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Thai shared valuable experiences about studying and practicing journalism. She advised students to read and collect good articles daily, then analyze them from a cultural perspective. And when reading an article, students should always ask themselves: "If I were to write this news/article, could I write it better?"

Many students shared that the exchange session was truly practical, beneficial, and very necessary before a new scientific research season is approaching.
