This is not only an occasion to express gratitude to the teachers who have dedicated their hearts and souls to the noble cause of educating future generations, but also a moment of reflection for the school to contemplate its traditions – the enduring foundation that has shaped the identity of this "House of Humanities" through many generations.
The gathering was honored to welcome former leaders of the school and generations of former teachers who have been associated with the school through various historical periods. In particular, the presence of many teachers of advanced age was very moving, such as the presence of People's Teacher Le Hong Sam, who is 96 years old this year.
Firm handshakes, warm greetings, and smiles filled with cherished memories created a close and warm atmosphere at the reunion. The retired teachers, though long past their teaching careers, returned to the school with deep affection. This is a sentiment that cannot be measured by years of service, but is nurtured through professional memories, through years of companionship with the school's growth, and through the pride of witnessing the "House of Humanities" increasingly develop, affirming its position as a leading institution in training and research in social sciences and humanities in the nation.
Speaking at the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: “We are truly moved to meet our teachers again today, moved by their good health, their affection, and especially their deep concern for the University.”
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the contributions and companionship of the former teachers and staff to the development of the school over many periods.
According to the Rector, throughout its 80-year journey of formation and development, and 30 years under the name of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University has always received invaluable companionship, sharing, and support from its retired faculty members. Many teachers, even after retirement, continue to participate in teaching, research, and publications with the University. Their presence not only signifies academic contributions but also represents a continuation of spirit and a flame of tradition passed down through generations.
Reporting to the alumni about the achievements in 2025, according to Principal Hoang Anh Tuan, the school had a year "full of joy" with many noteworthy accomplishments. In university admissions, the school's prestige and attractiveness continued to be clearly affirmed to society. The school received 46,000 applications and admitted more than 2,600 students. These telling figures reflect the trust of society and students in the quality of education and the academic brand of the school.
The university remains a major contributor to master's and doctoral programs at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Particularly in the field of international education, the number of international students studying at the university continues to lead Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with approximately 1,500 students last year. This result demonstrates the harmonious development between traditional and new training programs, between preserving humanistic values and meeting the demands of internationalization.
In the fields of science and community service, the University has been tasked by the Ministry of Education and Training with developing a Vietnamese language competency framework, implementing online Vietnamese language teaching programs for overseas Vietnamese, and providing various support programs for Vietnamese language learning. Scientific research activities continue to be recognized at the national level; academic and international cooperation is maintained and expanded. The University also implements large-scale scientific and publishing programs, with a plan to develop a set of 500-600 books and a curriculum for the 2024-2029 period.
Alongside the positive results, the University frankly acknowledges the challenges in the new context, such as the gradual reduction in state budget, the approaching limit of revenue from training, and the increasingly stringent demands for innovation from society. In the coming period, revenue from science, technology, and research is expected to account for 50-70% of total revenue. In its Development Strategy to 2035, with a vision to 2045, the University focuses on restructuring its operational system, improving the quality of training, developing international programs, and improving learning and working conditions.
