Alumni of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU): Connecting to promote development

According to Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Principal of the school, this is the third year that the school's Alumni Association has been operating, but it is the first time the school has organized a meeting with outstanding alumni.

Since January 2016 - when he began to hold the responsibility of President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU), based on the suggestion of an American professor, he has cherished the idea of ​​organizing a connection between alumni - those who have studied and trained at the school, had enough time to experience, contributed their knowledge to society, had the opportunity to return to share experiences and support the school and students of the next generations.

The meeting attracted the participation of 21 outstanding alumni from the faculties. They are representatives of generations of students, currently holding important positions and having quite close connections with their old school and old class.

On behalf of the alumni of the 11th course - Faculty of History, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong (currently President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association) - expressed his joy and emotion when participating in the meeting of the exemplary student generations. The Associate Professor did not forget to mention the Hanoi University of Letters - Hanoi National University - University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) with a sense of pride and strong belief in the generations of students graduating with the quality of one of the strongest training schools in social sciences in the country.

Among the representatives of “successful alumni” present at the meeting, there were also many famous faces who worked in “different professions”. They shared that knowledge of social sciences and humanities is the fundamental knowledge that helps them achieve success in every job they do.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Quyen - former student of Psychology class K47, currently Deputy General Director of Viettel Telecom Company (Military Telecommunications Group) - shared: Social science knowledge learned at university is the foundation, the key to success. It is the "energy" needed for each individual to shine in their work position, with enough emotional quotient (EQ) to act as a catalyst to connect resources, in which people are the basic resource.

Mr. Quyen hopes that, with its current position, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU) will promote the connection: school with society; training with human resource needs; connecting and exchanging experiences between generations of students to create a combined strength, contributing to the common development of society.

The only female representative of the meeting, Ms. Nhu Thi Ngan - former student of the Faculty of Tourism K48 - General Director of Hanoi Tourism Investment Joint Stock Company - continued to emphasize the story of "connection", and at the same time hoped that the school would pay more attention to career orientation for students before graduation to shorten the unemployment period as well as reduce the retraining time for employers.

Expressing his thanks for the useful sharing of the alumni, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Principal of the school - affirmed that the meeting really left many practical meanings. At the same time, he acknowledged the contributions of the alumni to the overall development of the school. In the coming time, in addition to basic research, the school will pay more attention to applied research, promote the connection of training with the human resource needs of society as well as strengthen the connection with alumni to promote the combined strength to promote the development of the school.
