The University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, formerly the Faculty of Literature, was established by a decree signed by President Ho Chi Minh (October 10, 1945). After transitioning to the period of Hanoi University (from 1956), it has now been built and developed for over 70 years. During these years, the University has achieved many important accomplishments and become a leading research and training center in social sciences and humanities in the country, making a significant contribution to the cause of national construction and defense.

The university's fine traditions are further nurtured by generations of alumni who have made and continue to make contributions in the political, economic, cultural, and social fields of the country. These successful alumni are not only a source of pride but also a testament to the prestige and reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities within the community and society.

In recent years, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has paid special attention to alumni affairs. Based on the activities of the alumni liaison committees of various graduating classes, the first Alumni Conference was held on April 25, 2015. The conference unanimously elected the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, consisting of 19 members who are exemplary alumni representing 16 alumni branches from various faculties. After more than a year of operation, the University's Alumni Association has begun to play a role in gathering and contributing to the University's activities, especially during the celebrations of the 20th anniversary and the 70th anniversary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Besides university-level activities, alumni activities are mainly concentrated in the faculties, making a positive contribution to the activities of these units.
