(SVVN) As a national top student in History, Nhat Tran chose to be admitted directly to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to pursue her passion. After three years of study, the student from Hue has won more than 10 scholarships of various kinds, achieved many accomplishments in sports, scientific research, and youth union activities, and recently made it into the Top 100 outstanding students participating in the "VNU Leadership Summer Camp".

Nguyen Anh Nhat Tran was born and raised in Hue and is a former student of the History specialized class at Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted.
The 21-year-old female student is currently studying History and Tourism and Travel Service Management at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. She is the Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of the History Faculty, the President of the Student Association of the History Faculty, and the President of the K65 History Student Association.

I chose to study in Hanoi because I "fell in love" with the winter in Northern Vietnam.
Sharing with the Vietnamese Student section of Tien Phong newspaper, Nhat Tran said: “When I was little, I often heard my mother tell stories about having to run to avoid bombs and take shelter during the years of the Resistance War against the US. I also heard my maternal grandfather tell stories about the war he experienced. I was very impressed by those stories, so I sought out and read many books about Vietnamese history and gradually became immersed in those heroic pages of history.”
Throughout my school years, from elementary to middle school, I was fortunate to have some truly outstanding history teachers with engaging and lively teaching methods, far from boring as many people claim.
In high school, I had the opportunity to be a student of history teachers whose passion and dedication I felt in every lesson. I'm always proud that my teachers are the best "torchbearers and keepers of the flame alive."
Nhat Tran as a high school student at Hue National High School for the Gifted
Nhat Tran was a student at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School, a school over 80 years old and one of the most successful secondary schools in Hue. This was an important stepping stone that helped her pass the entrance exam with the highest score in the specialized History class, becoming a student at the prestigious Quoc Hoc High School. At the age of 18, she was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam.

With second prize at the 2018 Northern Coastal and Delta Region Student Excellence Olympiad and third prize at the 2019-2020 National Student Excellence Selection Exam, Nhat Tran was granted direct admission and priority consideration to many universities. She chose to major in History at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Recalling that decision, she shared: “Besides the academic environment, the reason I decided to move to Hanoi is very simple. Because I really like the winter here, although I also like Hanoi's romantic autumn, but I prefer the weather in the North when winter comes.”
According to her, studying and researching history with leading professors, associate professors, and doctors of history in Vietnam was an "extremely wonderful and happy" experience during her youth.
Pursuing research on modern Vietnamese education.
On her first day in the dorm, most of her roommates were "shocked," unable to understand what Nhat Tran was saying because of her distinctive Hue accent. When she met with her classmates, she volunteered to run for a position on the student council, but everyone below was surprised because they couldn't keep up with the conversation. It took her more than a month to learn to speak more slowly and clearly so she could make more new friends.
After three years of study, Nhat Tran has achieved several accomplishments: an excellent GPA of 3.70/4.0 - ranking first in her class for three consecutive years; receiving the Dinh Xuan Lam Award in 2022-2023 from the Dinh Xuan Lam History Foundation; receiving a government scholarship for six consecutive semesters and several other scholarships such as the Danko Scholarship, Mitsubishi Scholarship, Le Van Huu Scholarship, and the KBSV Young Scientist Incubation Scholarship - VNU Hanoi.

When asked about the lecturers at the History Department, she said: “The image that left the deepest and most unforgettable impression on me was that of the Head of the History Department, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Van Quan, during a class on the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1858. With his scientific lectures, easy-to-understand teaching style, and interesting stories, he brought us so much new knowledge and a new perspective on history. Although he was very busy with his leadership duties, he still dedicated time to us students in the History Department.”

Nhat Tran also greatly admires Dr. Truong Thi Bich Hanh, who teaches Modern Vietnamese History, and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, who teaches Ho Chi Minh Thought. She is captivated by Dr. Hanh's writings and articles, and by her teaching methods, which are both closely aligned with the lesson content and lively and engaging. She says she often "browses" Dr. Hanh's personal page – a page dedicated to travel – to learn more about the diverse world and to appreciate life more.
As for Professor Tung, many of the Humanities students are probably familiar with the fact that in the first class, he often "threatened" to have students switch credit courses. However, the more I studied and listened, the more captivated I became by the diverse knowledge he imparted. I still remember the last class with him, where he advised the whole class to live simply, to learn to understand, and to go out and experience more while we are young. These are also the things I aspire to in order to improve myself.
Currently, Nhat Tran is preparing to enter her final year of study and has chosen to major in Vietnamese History. Her main research focus is on modern Vietnamese education. She recently completed her thesis, "Science and Technology Education in Vietnam from the 1906 Education Reform to 1945." This research earned her the Promising Research Award at the 2023 Student Scientific Research Conference of the Faculty of History.
Nhat Tran is preparing a report for the 2023 Student Scientific Research Conference of the Faculty of History.
The scope of this research focuses on secondary education. In the future, she plans to expand the research to include college and university levels, and conduct in-depth studies in specific regions such as education in Northern Vietnam, education in Central Vietnam, and education in Southern Vietnam.
Nhat Tran added that each region has some differences in educational policies and programs. Expanding her research will help her gain both a specific perspective and a comparative approach between regions, as well as an overall view of the development of science and technology education in Vietnam during the modern era. From there, she hopes to identify some lessons learned to improve Vietnamese education today.
Because she loves exploring and experiencing new places, she is currently pursuing a double degree in Tourism Studies at the university. Her wish is to spend about a year traveling with her mother after graduating. Through this, she can gain a deeper understanding of the cultural beauty of different regions, broaden her knowledge, and produce more in-depth and high-quality research.
A female leader who excels in both academics and martial arts.
Nhat Tran has always actively participated in extracurricular programs: Volunteer for the "Supporting Students During Exams" program in 2021 and 2022 in Hue, and in 2023 in Hanoi; an active volunteer who made significant contributions to cultural and historical activities and events of the National History Museum Volunteer Club in 2021; and participating in supporting and teaching at the "HUS FAMILY 2022" summer camp organized by the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Nhat Tran participated in the "Supporting Students During Exam Season" program in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi in June 2023.
She was among the Top 100 Healthy Youth at Hanoi National University in the 2021-2022 academic year; won a total of 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, and 3 bronze medals at chess and football tournaments at various levels; is a member of the school's Vovinam Club and participated in a Vovinam performance to welcome the SEA Games 31.

Winning the gold medal in the women's doubles rapid chess event at the 2021 Hanoi University, Academy, and College Chess Tournament was the most special victory for her. Because since childhood, despite participating in many competitions, Nhat Tran had never won first place or a gold medal; she had always been the "queen of second place".
That year's tournament was her first chess tournament as a student, so she played with a relaxed mindset, not putting too much pressure on herself to win a medal. As a result, she won four consecutive games and, along with her teammates, advanced to the championship cup, much to the joy and excitement of the members of the Vietnam National University Hanoi Chess Club (VCC).
Nhat Tran lifted the championship trophy for the first time at the 2021 Chess Tournament.
“At that moment, I was so emotional and immediately called my mother to share the good news, so that the joy could spread from Hanoi all the way to Hue. Standing on the highest podium for the first time in my life, I was both overjoyed and nervous; it was a very difficult feeling to describe,” Nhat Tran recalled.
Thanks to the aforementioned contributions, she was honored as "Outstanding Young Person at the grassroots level in 2022", and received the "Excellent Student" title at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (in 2021 and 2022), at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 2022, and at the City of Hanoi in 2022.
The summer of 2023 also held a very significant event for her: becoming an official participant in the first-ever VNU Leadership Summer Camp. Nhat Tran overcame hundreds of applications and passed IQ and EQ tests to become one of the 100 most outstanding students selected to participate in the Incubation Round of the VNU Leadership Summer Camp 2023.

The summer camp is an initiative and is sponsored by the Director of Hanoi National University - Professor Dr. Le Quan. The program aims to establish a talented leadership club for students at Hanoi National University, with the goal of supporting young talents, discovering and nurturing young leaders.
Here, she had the opportunity to meet and work with many talented, responsible, and enthusiastic young leaders, as well as participate in beneficial specialized classes guided by reputable lecturers and experts. Through the Summer Camp, she became more confident by learning a lot of new knowledge and skills and expanding her network.

After the summer camp, Nhat Tran is returning to Hue with her family and traveling with relatives after a year of many changes in her studies. In her final year of university, she plans to focus on completing her courses in Vietnamese History, successfully writing her graduation thesis, or having a research paper published in a professional journal. She also aims to graduate with honors.
