Nguyen Anh Nhat Tran was born and raised in Hue, a former student of the History class of Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted.
The 21-year-old female student is currently studying History and Tourism and Travel Services Management at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. She is the Deputy Secretary of the History Faculty Youth Union, President of the History Faculty Youth Union and President of the History K65 Youth Union.

Chose to study in Hanoi because of "falling in love" with the winter in the NorthSharing with the Vietnamese Student page of Tien Phong newspaper, Nhat Tran said: “When I was little, I often heard my mother tell stories about having to run away from bombs and take shelter during the years of the Resistance War against America. I also heard my grandfather tell stories about the war he experienced. I was very impressed by those stories, so I read many books about Vietnamese history and gradually immersed myself in those heroic pages.
When I was in school, from primary to secondary school, I was lucky to have excellent History teachers, with lively and engaging teaching methods, not boring at all as people often say.
In high school, I had the opportunity to become a student of history teachers whose enthusiasm and emotion I felt in each lesson. I often pride myself on the fact that my teachers are the best "fire-bearers and fire-keepers".

Nhat Tran was a student at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School, a school that is over 80 years old and one of the most successful secondary schools in Hue. This was an important stepping stone that helped her pass the History class as valedictorian, becoming a student at the prestigious Quoc Hoc School. When she turned 18, she was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam.

With the Second Prize at the 2018 Northern Delta and Coastal Region Excellent Student Olympic Competition and the Third Prize at the 2019-2020 National Excellent Student Competition, Nhat Tran was directly admitted and given priority for admission to many universities. She chose the History major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Recalling that decision, she shared: “Apart from the academic environment, the reason I decided to go to Hanoi was very simple. Because I really like the winter here, although I also like the romantic autumn of Hanoi, I like the weather in the North more when winter comes.”
According to her, studying and researching history with the leading Professors, Associate Professors, and Doctors of History in Vietnam was an "extremely wonderful and happy" experience in her youthful years.
Pursuing research on modern Vietnamese educationOn the first day of moving into the dormitory, most of her roommates were “shocked” and did not understand what Nhat Tran was saying because of her distinctive Hue accent. When meeting the class, she volunteered to run for the executive committee, but everyone below was “astonished” because they could not keep up with the conversation. It took her more than a month to learn to speak more slowly and clearly to get to know many new friends.
After three years of study, Nhat Tran has achieved a number of achievements: Excellent GPA 3.70/4.0 - ranked 1st in the class for three consecutive years; received the Dinh Xuan Lam Award in 2022-2023 from the Dinh Xuan Lam History Foundation; received the Budget Scholarship for 6 consecutive semesters and a number of other scholarships such as Danko Scholarship, Mitsubishi Scholarship, Le Van Huu Scholarship, KBSV Young Scientist Incubation Scholarship - VNU.

When asked about the lecturers at the History Department, she said: “The image of the Head of the History Department - Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan in a lesson about the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1858 that left a deep and unforgettable impression on me. With his scientific lectures, easy-to-understand communication and interesting stories, he brought us a lot of new knowledge and new perspectives on history. Although he was very busy with leadership work, he still made time for us, the History students.”
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan, Head of the History Department, presented the 2022 Dinh Xuan Lam History Prize to student Nhat Tran.
Nhat Tran also loves Dr. Truong Thi Bich Hanh, who teaches Modern Vietnamese History, and Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, who teaches Ho Chi Minh Thought. She loves Ms. Hanh's writings and articles, and her teaching methods, which are both closely following the lesson content and lively and engaging. She said she often "wanders" on Ms. Hanh's personal page - a person who loves to "travel" - to learn more about the colorful world and to love this life more.
As for Mr. Tung, many Humanities students are probably familiar with the fact that in the first class, he often 'threatens' students to transfer credits. However, the more she studies and listens, the more she is fascinated by the multidisciplinary knowledge that he imparts. She still remembers the last class with him, he told the whole class to live simply and practice understanding, and to go out and experience more when they are young. These are also the things that she aims for to improve herself.
Nhat Tran is currently preparing to enter her final year of study and has chosen to major in Vietnamese History. Her main research direction is modern Vietnamese education. She has just completed the topic "Science and technology education in Vietnam from the educational reform of 1906 to 1945". This research helped her win the Promising Award at the 2023 History Faculty Student Scientific Research Conference.

The scope of this research focuses on education at the secondary level. In the future, she will expand the scope of research to the college and university levels and conduct in-depth research in each region such as education in the North, education in the Central region and education in the South.
Nhat Tran added that each region will have some differences in educational policies and programs. Expanding her research will help her have a specific view, be able to respond to policies between regions and have an overall view of the development of science and technology education in modern Vietnam. From there, she hopes to be able to point out some lessons to improve current Vietnamese education.
Because she loves exploring and experiencing new lands, she is studying for a double degree at the university's Tourism Department. Her wish is to spend about a year traveling with her mother after graduating from university. Through that, she can learn more about the cultural beauty of each region, expand her knowledge to produce more quality and in-depth research.

The Gold Medal in the Women's Doubles Rapid Chess event at the Hanoi Regional University, Academies and Colleges Chess Tournament in 2021 is the victory that brings her the most special emotions. Because since childhood, although she has participated in many competitions, Nhat Tran has never won First Prize or Gold Medal, but has always been the "king of second place".
That year's tournament was the first Chess tournament in her student life, so she competed with a relaxed mentality, not focusing on winning a medal. Thanks to that, she won 4 consecutive games and together with her teammates went straight to the championship cup in the joy and excitement of the members of the Hanoi National University Chess Club (VCC).

“At that moment, I was so moved that I called my mother to tell her, so that the joy could spread from Hanoi to Hue. For the first time in my life, I stood on the highest podium, I was both happy and nervous, the feeling was hard to describe,” Nhat Tran recalled.
Thanks to the above contributions, she was honored as "Outstanding Young Face at the grassroots level in 2022", received the title of "5 Good Students" at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (2021 and 2022), at the Hanoi National University in 2022 and at the Hanoi City level in 2022.
The summer of 2023 also has a very meaningful event for her, which is becoming an official Camper of the first VNU Leader Summer Camp. Nhat Tran has surpassed hundreds of applications, taken IQ and EQ tests to become one of the 100 most outstanding students selected to participate in the Incubation round of the VNU Leader Summer Camp 2023.

Here, she met and worked with many talented, responsible and enthusiastic young leaders, as well as participated in useful specialized classes under the guidance of prestigious lecturers and experts. Through the Summer Camp, she became more confident by learning a lot of new knowledge, skills and expanding her relationships.
