VietTimes magazine awards scholarships to underprivileged students at VNU-USSH.

On the afternoon of December 4, 2024, VietTimes online magazine – an organ of the Vietnam Digital Media Association – in collaboration with the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), held a scholarship awarding ceremony to support disadvantaged students and signed a memorandum of cooperation. Scholarships were awarded to 15 diligent students.

Attending the event were journalist Le Tho Binh, Vice President of the Vietnam Digital Media Association; journalist Nguyen Ba Kien, Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes Magazine; Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Broadcasting and Information Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Director of the Institute of Broadcasting and Information Technology, along with many teachers and journalists from both units.
On this occasion, VietTimes online magazine awarded 15 scholarships, each worth 5 million VND, to students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The scholarship recipients all come from disadvantaged backgrounds but have always strived to excel in their studies. In addition, the Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes online magazine also provided 25 million VND in support for the training activities of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Phan Van Kien expressed his sincere gratitude from the Institute's leadership to VietTimes magazine. Dr. Phan Van Kien hoped that the signing of the memorandum of cooperation with VietTimes magazine would open a new chapter for cooperation between the Institute of Broadcasting and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VietTimes online magazine, and the Vietnam Digital Communication Association.

Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien, Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes Magazine, shared that although each scholarship awarded by the magazine to students is not large, it carries the belief and hope that the recipients will continue to strive to overcome difficulties, achieve high academic results, and aspire to become journalists.
Inspiring the students, journalist Nguyen Ba Kien shared that he was a former student of the Institute's Class of 39. During his time as a student, he was also from a poor background, but thanks to his willpower and determination to overcome difficulties, he nurtured and pursued his passion to become a journalist. Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien encouraged the students of the Institute of Broadcasting and Communication to not let circumstances control them, and not let difficulties hinder their pursuit of knowledge.
Student Vu Thi Hai Anh, K68 Public Relations, representing 15 scholarship recipients, expressed gratitude to Viettimes magazine, the professors, and journalists for their deep concern for students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication. Hai Anh said that this scholarship is very meaningful to her, as she is a completely visually impaired student, facing countless difficulties in her studies. “I hope that with this scholarship, students like us will be able to develop our strengths and become professional journalists and communicators,” Hai Anh shared.

"To become a professional journalist, you need passion."

Also during the ceremony, representatives from VietTimes online magazine shared their experiences and professional skills with students of the Institute of Broadcasting and Communication.

Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien believes that to become a professional journalist, one must have passion; without passion, one certainly cannot pursue a career in journalism. Schools train thinking skills, while practical skills come from the individual and the working environment.

According to journalist Le Tho Binh, within the Vietnam Digital Media Association, VietTimes magazine has veteran journalists with extensive experience who can help students hone their journalism and communication skills. This is a breeding ground where students can practice, learn, and pursue their careers.
Journalist Le Tho Binh expressed his hope that the cooperative relationship between the two sides would be practical and effective, ensuring that graduates would not miss out on career opportunities.

In addition, journalist Le Tho Binh shared valuable experiences from his nearly 40 years of professional journalism. He also advised students to be extremely passionate about the profession and to become a good journalist, they must always strive and work hard.
