VietTimes Magazine awards scholarships to VNU-USSH students

On the afternoon of December 4, 2024, VietTimes Electronic Magazine - an agency of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association in collaboration with the Institute of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) organized a ceremony to award scholarships to support students overcoming difficulties and signed a memorandum of cooperation. Awarding scholarships to 15 studious students

Attending the event were journalist Le Tho Binh, Vice President of Vietnam Digital Communications Association; journalist Nguyen Ba Kien, Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes Magazine; Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute for Digital Communication and Information Technology; Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Director of the Institute for Digital Communication and Information Technology, and many teachers and journalists from the two units.
On this occasion, VietTimes e-magazine awarded 15 scholarships, each worth 5 million VND, to students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The students receiving the scholarships all have difficult circumstances but always strive to excel in their studies. In addition, the Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes e-magazine also awarded 25 million VND to support the training activities of the Institute of Journalism and Communication.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Phan Van Kien expressed his deep gratitude from the Institute's leadership to Viettimes magazine. Dr. Phan Van Kien hopes that the signing of the memorandum of understanding with VietTimes Magazine will open a new chapter for cooperation between the Institute of Information Technology and Communications, University of Social Sciences and Humanities with VietTimes Electronic Magazine and Vietnam Digital Communications Association.

Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien, Editor-in-Chief of VietTimes Magazine, shared that each scholarship the magazine gives to students, although not large, conveys the belief and hope that the scholarship recipients will continue to strive to overcome difficulties, achieve high academic results, and strive to become journalists.
Inspiring the students, journalist Nguyen Ba Kien shared that he was a former student of K39 of the Institute. During his school years, he was also a poor student, but thanks to his will and determination to overcome difficulties, he nurtured and pursued his passion to become a journalist. Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien encouraged the students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication not to let circumstances control them or let difficulties hinder their access to knowledge.
Student Vu Thi Hai Anh, K68 Public Relations, representing 15 students receiving scholarships, expressed her gratitude to Viettimes magazine, teachers, and journalists for their deep concern for students of the Institute of Journalism and Communication. Hai Anh said that today's scholarship is very meaningful to her, because she is a completely blind student, and has to face many difficulties in studying. "I hope that with this scholarship, students like us will be able to develop our strengths and become professional journalists and communicators," Hai Anh shared.

“To be a professional journalist, you must have passion.”

Also within the framework of the ceremony, representatives of VietTimes Electronic Magazine shared with students of the Institute of Information Technology and Communications about their experiences and professional skills.

Journalist Nguyen Ba Kien believes that to become a professional journalist, one must have passion. Without passion, one certainly cannot pursue journalism. School trains thinking, while skills depend on oneself and the working environment.

According to journalist Le Tho Binh, in the Vietnam Digital Media Association, VietTimes Magazine has veteran, experienced journalists who can help students “sharpen” their journalism and communication skills. This is the cradle for students to practice, learn and work.
Journalist Le Tho Binh hopes that the cooperative relationship between the two sides will be practical and effective so that students after graduation will not miss out on career opportunities.

In addition, journalist Le Tho Binh also shared valuable experiences in his nearly 40 years of professional journalism. He also advised students to be passionate about their profession and to become a good journalist, they must always strive and try.
