10. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:
- The thesis has outlined the formation process of Hai Phong city, from a desolate area at the mouth of a coastal river to a medieval market town and a modern urban center up to 1888.
- The thesis has outlined a picture of the economic life of Hai Phong city in the modern era (from 1888 to 1945) with various economic forms including industry, commerce, handicrafts, agriculture, services, and fishing, focusing on clarifying the characteristics of a developed industrial and commercial city in Northern Vietnam during the modern era.
- The thesis clarifies the characteristics of the administrative institutions, changes in population and demographic structure, the emergence and transformation of social classes, and revolutionary movements from 1930 to 1945 in Hai Phong city.
- The thesis reconstructs the rich and complex cultural life of Hai Phong city in various aspects: education, healthcare, sports, the emergence and operation of journalism and publishing, cultural characteristics that ensured the livelihoods of coastal residents, as well as religious life, beliefs, theatrical forms, and festivals in Hai Phong city during the modern era.
- The thesis has summarized the basic characteristics of the formation of port cities in modern Vietnam (through the case of Hai Phong); identified the important factors that determined the socio-economic development as well as the characteristics of cultural life in Hai Phong during the modern era, thereby drawing lessons for the socio-economic development and cultural life building of Hai Phong city today and in the future.

- The thesis outlines the formation of the Haiphong city from an estuary wasteland to a medieval towns and modern city in 1888.
- The thesis outlines the picture of economic life of the Haiphong city in the modern era (from 1888 to 1945) with the basic type of economy: trade, industry, agriculture, services, sea fishing, banking… which focuses on understanding the characteristics of a development industrial and commercial city in northern Vietnam in the modern times.
- The thesis explains the characteristics of management institutions, demographic changes and population structure, and the appearance changing of the class, the revolutionary movement from 1930 to 1945 in the Haiphong city.
- The thesis rebuilds the rich cultural life and the complexity of the Haiphong city in terms of education, health, sports, the appearance and operation of the press, publishing, the cultural characteristics guarantee, the lives of the residents of coastal areas as well as coastal areas of religions, religious beliefs, the kind of theater, the festival in Haiphong modern times…
