By describing and analyzing the history of the birth, development and characteristics of the plantation economy in the Dutch East Indies colony (1870-1942), the thesis provides a clear view of a typical colonial economic model in Southeast Asia. The plantation economy in the Dutch East Indies colony originated from the period of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), developed in the late 19th century - early 20th century, playing a major role throughout the history of the colonial economy.
