General introduction

1. History of formation
The Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU), is one of the leading centers for Anthropology research and training in Vietnam.
With a long-standing tradition, built and developed on the foundation of the Department of Ethnology, Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the history of the Department of Anthropology has gone through many important developments:

• 1960: Established the Ethnology Department of the Faculty of History, Hanoi University of Science.

• 1967: Established the Department of Ethnology, Faculty of History, Hanoi University of Science.
• 2004: The Department of Ethnology was renamed the Department of Anthropology under the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.
• 2010: Established the Department of Anthropology under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.
• 2015: Established the Faculty of Anthropology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.

After more than half a century of construction and development, the Faculty of Anthropology is currently the only university in Vietnam that systematically trains Anthropology from undergraduate to master's and doctoral levels.
2. Mission
To become one of the leading anthropology centers in Vietnam and the region, harmoniously combining theory and practice, qualitative and quantitative, basic research and applied research, training professional anthropologists with professional qualifications and social prestige.
