This is a meaningful activity to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs of Vietnam and Laos, while contributing to strengthening educational cooperation in particular and fostering sustainable friendship between the two countries.
Accordingly, 10 full scholarships have a total value of 4 billion VND. Each scholarship is equivalent to 400 million VND for each student, including free tuition for 4 years (260 million VND), free accommodation in dormitories and living expenses (140 million VND).
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will coordinate with the leaders of Xiengkhouang province, the Management Board of the Vietnam - Laos Martyrs' Shrine in Xiengkhouang province, and the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Lao PDR to select excellent students with good Vietnamese language skills who have completed high school to introduce them to study at VNU-USSH from 2025.

The scholarship awarding ceremony was held in a solemn and emotional atmosphere at the memorial and requiem ceremony for the heroic martyrs of Vietnam and Laos, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Vietnam War Invalids and Martyrs Day. The event was organized by the Central Cultural Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the Coordination and Cooperation Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Laos in coordination with the Lao Buddhist Alliance of Xieng Khouang province, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Nghe An province and the Vietnamese community in Xieng Khouang province.

The heroic land of Xiengkhouang is the place that marks the many victories and sacrifices of the army and people of Vietnam and Laos in the resistance war for independence of the two nations.
According to Xiengkhouang Province Deputy Governor Sivilay Sengchalon, since 1984, Xiengkhouang provincial authorities have coordinated with units to search for, collect and repatriate more than 12,000 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs who died in the area during the war.
He affirmed that the blood and bones of the two countries’ heroes and martyrs have mixed on every road, river, stream and mountain in Xiengkhouang. The government and people of Xiengkhouang province always remember the sacrifices of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts.
Therefore, the Shrine Area will become a sacred destination, a place for cultural and religious activities, commemorating the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of Vietnam and Laos, a precious spiritual heritage of the two nations.

On this occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam, representing Vietnamese agencies, organizations and individuals, presented 165 million VND and 100 million Kip (Lao currency) to representatives of Xiengkhouang provincial government to support people in the area affected by floods.
