The emblem commemorating 120 years of tradition is built on the foundation of inheriting the history of formation and development of VNU, from Indochina University (1906) - one of the first modern university institutions in Vietnam and the region, to the multidisciplinary, multi-field research university model of today.
The logo was approved by Decision No. 1498/QD-DHQGHN dated April 22, 2026. Accordingly, the logo will be used uniformly throughout the entire VNU system, across all activities in 2026, including official events, scientific conferences, exhibitions, as well as products and media platforms.

The logo is designed in a highly symbolic emblem style, with the central image being a perspective view of the facade of the building at 19 Le Thanh Tong Street – the iconic structure of the University of Indochina, the cradle of modern higher education in Vietnam. The details are rendered using classical visual language combined with a depth effect. More than just an architectural heritage, this image evokes the academic memories of many generations of intellectuals, a place where knowledge was formed, accumulated, and disseminated over time.

The image of a pair of phoenixes adorns the decorative archway of the main hall at 19 Le Thanh Tong Street.
Hidden beneath the architectural layers is the image of a pair of phoenixes – a decorative detail originating from the design on the main hall's dome – treated as a layer of cultural heritage. This symbol evokes the brilliance of literature and intellect, while also signifying talent, character, and prosperity in East Asian tradition. Placing the phoenix in this hidden layer creates a deeper meaning: tradition not only exists but also subtly supports the development of modern knowledge, simultaneously ushering in a new era of aspiration and progress.

The brushstroke and scroll motifs, along with the snake and medicine cup motifs, are stylized into patterns on the main entrance of the lecture hall at 19 Le Thanh Tong Street.
On either side of the symbolic structure are a system of intellectual symbols, representing the three fundamental pillars: literature, science, and art. The images of the brush and scroll evoke the foundation of culture and scholarly tradition, while the symbols of the snake and the medicine cup represent experimental science and medicine. This combination not only reflects the multidisciplinary structure of Vietnam National University, Hanoi but also affirms the spirit of openness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and integration in academic development.
The dominant colors, deep navy blue and gold, were chosen to create a sense of solemnity, depth, and permanence. The blue evokes a space of knowledge, while the gold symbolizes value, prestige, and the accumulated wisdom over time. The words "Vietnam National University, Hanoi" in the upper circle establish the entity's legacy, while "120 Years of Tradition" below emphasizes the long history and continuity of the flow of knowledge.
Beyond aesthetics, the logo is designed according to modern branding principles, ensuring consistency across various media products such as documentaries, publications, websites, social media, and billboards, banners, and backdrops at events. The consistent implementation of the logo is expected to enhance communication effectiveness, strengthen brand recognition, and spread the core values of Vietnam National University, Hanoi to both domestic and international communities.
In the coming period, Vietnam National University, Hanoi will uniformly implement this emblem throughout its series of commemorative activities, thereby connecting generations of staff, lecturers, students, and partners, looking back on the 120-year journey and looking towards new developments in the future.
