At the reception of American scholars on the morning of January 8, 2024, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the school said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU is a core unit of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the leading training institution in Vietnam in the field of social sciences and humanities. The visit of American scholars and the introduction of the book "Fighting for Peace: American Soldiers and Veterans Against the War" will help generations of students approach a new perspective on the anti-Vietnam War activities of American veterans.
Mr. Ron Carver, American peace activist, member of the Washington DC Institute for Policy Research, USA, member of the Advisory Board of the organization "Friends of Project RENEW", Head of the delegation of scholars shared the honor when the American scholar was able to visit and launch the book with lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. This is one of the activities in the series of talks by the delegation of scholars at major universities in Vietnam.
Accordingly, during this visit to Vietnam, the delegation of American scholars and veterans had talks and book launches at 10 universities in Vietnam, such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU; Can Tho University; University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM; Duy Tan University (Da Nang); Foreign Trade University; Thai Nguyen University, etc.
The American scholar group, including many scientists and American veterans of the Vietnam War, has conducted research on Vietnamese culture and history, including the book "Fighting for Peace: American Soldiers and Veterans Against the War".

Speaking with nearly 100 students and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, scholars and American veterans shared the unsolved stories of thousands of American soldiers protesting against the US war in Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. As the war was taking place, many anti-war organizations of soldiers were established in the heart of the United States, printing hundreds of anti-war propaganda newspapers, more than 800 veterans gave up their government medals, many soldiers deserted to protest the war...
The American veterans' obsession with the brutality of war and the immense loss and sacrifice of the Vietnamese people, as well as the post-war psychological scars, have motivated them in their efforts to overcome the consequences of war.

Curt Stocker, a journalist, founded an anti-war newspaper. While still in the military, Stocker was chosen to speak to more than 500,000 anti-war protesters in Washington, DC.

That sacrifice and loss is still evident in many places and families, including the families of the school’s staff, lecturers and students.
