VNU-USSH affirms its sense of responsibility, scientific rigor, and honesty in carrying out the Nam Dinh Gazetteer Project.

Friday - January 12, 2024 7:10 PM
This was the main point emphasized by scientists at the Workshop on Developing Regulations for Compiling the Nam Dinh Gazetteer, held on the morning of January 12, 2024, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH).
The workshop was attended by scientists involved in the Nam Dinh Gazetteer Project from VNU-USSH and other universities and research institutes; representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade of Nam Dinh province, the Department of Science and Technology of Nam Dinh province, leaders of several functional departments, and interested lecturers and scientists.
In his opening remarks at the workshop, Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc, the project leader, stated that the Nam Dinh Gazetteer project is the first of its kind in Northern Vietnam. With dedication, responsibility, scientific rigor, and integrity, the scientists have been working diligently on the project's tasks to meet the requirement of completing the gazette within 24 months (from May 2023 to April 2025). The workshop on developing regulations for compiling the Nam Dinh Gazetteer serves as a forum for scientists to supplement, discuss, and agree upon regulations, criteria, and requirements for compiling the gazette according to the new national standards, aiming to meet the demands of connecting and exploiting information in the current digital transformation revolution, including updating local source materials.
With a task requiring a high level of scientific expertise, Professor Nguyen Quang Ngoc hopes that researchers will join hands in undertaking the task of compiling the Nam Dinh Gazetteer in a scientific, rational, and effective manner.

At the workshop, researchers presented the content framework of the local history according to various fields, discussing specific criteria and regulations for compiling local history entries, such as requirements for content, basic information structure, writing style, and editorial techniques. Accordingly, the content of the local history must meet the requirements of objectivity, distinctiveness, and comprehensiveness, both presenting the overall picture and highlighting the unique characteristics of Nam Dinh province.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has extensive experience in compiling local histories. However, developing a local history according to new criteria presents many new and challenging aspects. Therefore, scientists from VNU-USSH spent over a year researching the local history of Nam Dinh province, organizing scientific workshops, and forming research groups before signing this scientific research contract.
In November 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, signed a Science and Technology project contract for "Compiling the Gazetteer of Nam Dinh" with the project management agency, the Department of Science and Technology of Nam Dinh province.
