On the afternoon of April 20, 2026, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi) held a meeting with a delegation from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam to discuss cooperation in training, research, and cultural exchange.
The Iranian Embassy delegation included Mr. Mohammad Mirali Mohammadi, Chargé d'affaires; Mr. Mahdi Jafari, Attaché; Ms. Mahin Sia Mansouri, Diplomatic Officer; and Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Phuong, Interpreter. Representing the university were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam, Party Secretary; Dr. Pham Hoang Hung, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies; and Ms. Pham Ngoc Thuy, Lecturer in the Department of Oriental Studies.
Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the Iranian Embassy for its support of Iranian studies training and research in Vietnam. The relationship between the two sides has been maintained since 2002, laying the foundation for scholarship programs, Persian language training, and the development of a team of specialized lecturers. Academic cooperation activities, especially international conferences such as the conference on the influence of Persian civilization on humanity, have contributed to expanding the academic space and strengthening research connections. Based on this, the university hopes that the Iranian Embassy will continue to partner in training, research, and academic exchange programs.
Mr. Mohammad Mirali Mohammadi, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam, stated that during his initial period in office, he had the opportunity to interact with students at the university, directly observing the academic environment as well as the students' abilities and interest in Iranian studies. From these initial exchanges, he highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between the two sides, particularly in language training, regional studies, and cultural exchange. He also emphasized that direct engagement with students and faculty plays a crucial role in fostering mutual understanding and laying the foundation for long-term cooperation programs in the future. He viewed the relationship with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as part of promoting cultural exchange between the two countries and emphasized the need for effective and sustainable development. He also expressed his hope that relations between Vietnam and Iran will continue to expand in the future.
The discussions focused on the direction of cooperation in the next phase. Both sides agreed to renew the Memorandum of Understanding on academic cooperation and promote the establishment of a Vietnamese Studies program at the University of Tehran. Simultaneously, they agreed to strengthen exchanges of faculty, researchers, and students; promote the publication of joint research works; collaborate on the publication of a Vietnamese-Persian dictionary; and continue implementing full scholarship programs for students. The agreed-upon contents demonstrate a cooperation orientation focused on training, research, and academic networking, while expanding the university's role in cultural exchange and academic diplomacy.
