A multidisciplinary approach to the study of history and international relations in the 20th-21st centuries: From the perspective of Vietnamese and French scholars.

This is a scientific issue that will be discussed by numerous scholars from Vietnam and abroad at the international conference jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Paul-Valéry University of Montpellier 3 (Republic of France), and the Diplomatic Academy, Institute for Conservation and Development of Traditional Culture of France, on February 20th.
Since the 1970s, the world's historical community has continuously expanded the scope, approaches, and methods of historical research, such as global history, transnational history, international history, military history, colonial and decolonization history, gendered history, environmental history, etc. The field of history has also continuously broadened its research areas by combining with other fields of social sciences and humanities, such as political science, international relations, anthropology, and sociology. Following this trend, the historical and international relations research communities of Vietnam and France have also continuously innovated, absorbing new research achievements, especially new theories, approaches, and research methods to serve the development of the fields of history and international relations research in both countries. water.
To enhance academic exchange and introduce research achievements, new methods, and approaches in the study of history and international relations by Vietnamese and French scholars, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Paul-Valéry University of Montpellier 3 (Republic of France), and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, French Institute for Conservation and Development of Traditional Culture are jointly organizing the conference: “Multidisciplinary Approaches in the Study of History and International Relations in the 20th-21st Centuries (From the Perspective of Vietnamese and French Scholars)”.

Format: In-person and online (Zoom meeting software).

The conference brought together dozens of leading scientists, historians, and international relations experts from universities and research institutes in Vietnam, France, and several other countries, along with a large number of young researchers, graduate students, and doctoral candidates from Vietnam and France, to exchange and share approaches and research methods in history and international relations, thereby enhancing mutual understanding and academic sharing among scholars in both countries.
Through in-depth and meticulous research by domestic and international researchers, the conference will contribute to systematizing and updating theories, approaches, and research methods on history and international relations in the 20th and 21st centuries, especially new research methods such as transnational history, global history, environmental history, world order, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, soft power, etc.
At this conference, scientists will also suggest new research directions, methods, and approaches in the fields of history and international relations, thereby promoting cooperation in science, technology, and history education between the two countries.
