Proceedings of the Journal of Japanese Studies - Hanoi: Bringing the research of VNU-USSH faculty and students closer to the world.

Several research topics by faculty and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) were presented to the review board of the Journal of Japanese Studies - Hanoi and are scheduled for publication in 2024.
Recently, within the framework of the Zensho-UT Japan Studies Program in VNU Hanoi (JSPH), a collaboration between the University of Tokyo and Vietnam National University, Hanoi, scientists from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, participated in organizing the activities of the Japan Studies - Hanoi Proceedings Journal.
The Japan Studies Forum is a platform where students, graduate students, and young researchers present their research findings and exchange ideas with leading professors from the University of Tokyo and other Japanese universities. In November 2023, at the forum's third presentation, four graduate students from the first cohort presented their findings.PhD program in Japanese StudiesRepresentatives from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participated in presenting their research directions.
The topics include: "International Marriage between Vietnam and Japan - A Case Study of a Vietnamese Wife and a Japanese Husband" by PhD candidate Pham Quynh Lien; "Supporting Families with Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in Japan - Lessons for Vietnam" by PhD candidate Tran Viet Ha; "Japan's Specified Skilled Worker System - Prospects and Challenges" by PhD candidate Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao; "The Image of Children in Chinese and Haikai Poetry of the Late Edo Period" by PhD candidate Do Thi Mai.
In parallel with the Japan Studies Forum, the two sides have agreed to cooperate in editing and publishing the Hanoi-based Proceedings of Japan Studies, with publication number ISSN 2758-4453 (online journal), listed in the University of Tokyo's publishing catalog. This research journal will employ an independent, closed-door peer-review system, aiming to become a high-quality journal publishing the latest research findings of Japanese studies scholars from Vietnam, Japan, and around the world. The first issue is expected to be published in 2024.
Launched in November 2011, the Japan Research Support Program aims to promote the development of Japanese studies in Vietnam and is one of Zensho Group's "Support for Asian Talent Training" activities for the University of Tokyo. The program is currently in its third five-year phase at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
The program has actively supported the teaching and learning of faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students of the Department of Japanese Studies, achieving several concrete results in equipping facilities, receiving graduate students as auditing students at the University of Tokyo, organizing intensive courses on Japan, organizing short-term internships at the University of Tokyo, inviting Vietnamese lecturers to conduct research at the University of Tokyo, organizing library management seminars, organizing the "Hanoi Rondo" Japan-Vietnam Studies forum, and organizing reading sessions on ethnology… Since 2022, the program has begun implementing phase 3, focusing on enhancing the capacity of undergraduate students, graduate students, and young researchers through the Japan Studies Forum.
The program has provided numerous learning and research opportunities for faculty, staff, and students of VNU-USSH in general, and the Japanese Studies major in particular.

From March 27th to 30th, 2015, VNU-USSH lecturers participated in an intensive course (Traditional Japanese Studies) led by Professor Saito Mareshi (Photo: Faculty of Oriental Studies).
