Philosophy of Science: Quantum - Information and Ontological Problems

Monday - 06/04/2026 00:16
This was the content of a seminar held on the morning of April 3, 2026, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, aiming to create an academic forum for exchanging and discussing emerging theoretical issues at the intersection of contemporary philosophy and science.
In the context of modern science profoundly transforming how humans perceive the world, the achievements of quantum physics, information science, and new debates about reality are raising many fundamental questions for philosophy. Beyond epistemological or methodological aspects, these new approaches also spark new reflections on ontology, the structure of reality, and the relationship between matter, energy, information, and consciousness.
It was precisely to meet this need that the scientific seminar "Philosophy of Science: Quantum - Information and Ontological Issues" was organized by the Faculty of Philosophy on the morning of April 3, 2026, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, to create an academic forum for exchanging and discussing emerging theoretical issues at the intersection of contemporary philosophy and science.
The seminar focused on several key topics, including: approaches to ontology in contemporary philosophy of science; the challenges posed by quantum mechanics to classical conceptions of matter, determinism, and reality; the increasingly prominent role of the category of information in explaining the world; and the potential for expanding, supplementing, and developing philosophical thinking in the face of modern scientific and technological transformations. Based on this, the seminar aimed to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, contributing to clarifying the value and limitations of new approaches to fundamental philosophical issues.
Dr. Ho Ba Tham presented his report at the seminar.
The speaker is NCVCC, Dr. Ho Ba Tham, a researcher with decades of teaching and research experience in philosophy, and a person who has shown particular interest in the philosophical approach to quantum-information science in recent years. He has shifted his research focus from Marxist-Leninist philosophy to issues of modern philosophical science, paying special attention to ontological and realist issues and the relationship between matter, information, and the transformations of philosophical thought in the new context. He has also participated in numerous presentations, seminars, and conferences related to quantum-information philosophy at several academies, research institutes, and universities.
Organizing this seminar not only enriches the academic activities of the Faculty but also opens up opportunities for lecturers, researchers, postgraduate students, and undergraduates to access a new but potentially promising research direction. It also provides an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the role of philosophy in the face of major shifts in modern science, thereby enhancing theoretical thinking, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary dialogue in current research and teaching.
