Psychological counseling and social support help build confidence so that communities can overcome the pandemic.

That was the message conveyed in the presentation by Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, at the seminar "Proposing solutions to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic in the new situation in Vietnam," held on the afternoon of September 17, 2021. The seminar was chaired by the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Le Quan.

According to Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, along with the breakthroughs in science in the development of vaccines and treatments for Covid-19, psychological counseling and social support to build confidence and stabilize the community is a crucial task for each country in the context of a complex pandemic and the risk of it lasting for many more years. This is also a unique strength of the social sciences and humanities in supporting the community to respond to and adapt to the pandemic, which has been warned to continue accompanying humanity for a long time.

In fact, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities currently has almost all research and training fields in social sciences and humanities, with a team of leading experts nationwide. Over the years, in addition to its two strategic tasks of training high-quality human resources and conducting key scientific research, the University has continuously promoted activities supporting community development, including psychological counseling and social support.

The seminar was attended by experts and managers from various fields, both within and outside Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

In particular, the school has recently begun implementing a number of psychological counseling and social support activities at different levels to help the community gain more knowledge, skills, confidence, and motivation to overcome the difficult months of the pandemic, while also preparing for the years after the pandemic. The school's labor union, in coordination with the Psychology Faculty's labor union, organized an open forum "Maintaining mental balance and reducing stress during the pandemic."This includes sharing and advice from psychology experts on how to stabilize life during the period when Hanoi implemented social distancing measures. In the near future, contributing to the national responsibility of Hanoi National University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has planned to implement this program."Free online psychological counseling and social support program."The program provides support to the community through the School's socio-psychological counseling hotline. Initially, the program focuses on two key areas: "psychological counseling" and "comprehensive basic social services counseling." In the long term, the School will expand its specialized counseling activities to support the recovery and development of other sectors in the post-pandemic period."

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented a paper entitled: "Free psychological counseling and social support solutions to help communities cope with the Covid-19 pandemic in the new situation."

This seminar was attended by representatives of managers, scientists, and experts in health, education, and economics from within and outside Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). With the motto that responding to the Covid-19 pandemic is not simply the responsibility of the frontline healthcare sector alone, VNU Director Le Quan emphasized the need for a combined effort and coordinated solutions from various socio-economic sectors. Therefore, the seminar was organized with the participation of many experts and scientists from diverse fields, leveraging VNU's interdisciplinary strengths to address this highly topical issue. Through this activity, VNU aims to contribute advisory opinions to the Government and relevant ministries to develop timely and effective solutions for preventing, controlling, and managing the Covid-19 pandemic.
