In the constructionCeramic patterns of the Dong Dau cultureIn his study, author Bui Huu Tien focuses on in-depth research into the patterns on pottery from the Dong Dau culture. While the scope extends to the entire Dong Dau culture, the research is limited to the decorative patterns on the pottery. The author focuses on pottery because it is fragile, has a short lifespan, and is difficult to transport over long distances. Therefore, it clearly reflects the cultural characteristics of small communities during relatively short periods. Furthermore, the style and decorative patterns on pottery reflect both the aesthetic sense of the individual potter and the cultural and spiritual identity of the entire community at that time. It is thought that the author skillfully chose a small research subject, yet the scientific issues raised are significant and meaningful.

In this work, the author addresses many issues concerning decorative patterns on Dong Dau culture pottery, from creative techniques to the classification of patterns and their meanings, from economic value to religious consciousness reflected through these patterns. Furthermore, the author compares Dong Dau culture pottery patterns with those of the Thach Lac, Go Ma Dong - Go Con Lon, Hoa Loc, Ha Long, Phung Nguyen, and Go Mun cultures, highlighting similarities and differences between these pottery patterns and their relationships. The issues raised are discussed quite carefully and meticulously by the author.

Author Bui Huu Tien, a collaborator of mine on this work.Dong Dau is a typical prehistoric site.Having dedicated many years of passion and serious work to researching not only the Dong Dau relics but also the Dong Dau culture, I believe that the documents and scientific opinions presented are well-founded and persuasive.

For the reasons mentioned above, I think this is a very useful and interesting work for anyone who wants to learn about the history of the nation's first founding period: the Van Lang era of the Hung Kings and the Au Lac era of An Duong Vuong.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Dong Dau culture (1962 - 2012), I am honored to introduce this work.Ceramic patterns Dong Dau culturewith a large readership near and far.
