Diligent, dedicated, and thoroughly applying the skills learned at school along with extensive experience, nine years after graduation, Nguyen Dinh Quang, a former student of the K52 class of the Faculty of Management Science, majoring in Human Resource Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, currently holds the position of General Manager and Chairman of the Trade Union at Daeil Tech Vietnam Co., Ltd. This is a 100% South Korean-invested enterprise with a workforce of 1,250 employees.

Sharing his experience as the General Manager in charge of human resources at a large company specializing in manufacturing phone components for Samsung Group, with annual revenue in the trillions of VND, Mr. Quang said that today's success is the result of a long process.

During his student years, he always dreamed of becoming a lawyer, but after five years of working in economics at home, he realized that regardless of the field, whether in the public or private sector, management skills are essential, especially scientific management. This motivated him to choose the Faculty of Management Science, specializing in Human Resource Management.

What's remarkable is that, from the moment he entered university, he determined that to get a good job, besides academic knowledge, practical experience was also crucial, so he strived to accumulate as much experience as possible. Therefore, he has worked in many different jobs, from construction sites to manufacturing and trading companies. And each business model has provided him with invaluable experience. For example, working on construction sites helped him understand the lives of workers and the relationship between managers and workers, as construction sites bring together all types of laborers, from the lowest to the highest skill levels. There, he also honed his people management skills, as managing people on a construction site is very difficult, requiring managers to have a broad overview and make quick decisions.

While working at a trading company, he was exposed to more modern management tools such as human resource management software; received training in management skills; and gained an understanding of management processes. Manufacturing companies helped him gain a deeper understanding of environmental management, fire prevention and control, occupational safety; and management systems according to ISO 9001, 14001, etc.

Thanks to the flexible application of fundamental knowledge and skills acquired at university and valuable experience accumulated daily, he was selected for the position of Deputy Head of the Human Resources and Administration Department at HANAKA Group in Bac Ninh, and later promoted to Head of Department and Assistant to the Chairman of the Board. Two years later, he moved on to become the Human Resources Director of Van Thuan Co., Ltd.Because I always wanted to change my work environment to maximize my potential, even though I received excellent benefits from the leadership of Van Thuan Co., Ltd., I still decided to switch jobs. With my practical experience and the successes and achievements I had made at my previous company, I surpassed many candidates and was hired as Head of Administration and Human Resources at Daeil Tech Company of South Korea. After 6 years of hard work and dedication, I was promoted to General Manager and Chairman of the Trade Union.", Mr. Quang shared.

Speaking about the essential qualities of a manager, Mr. Quang believes that to become a manager, one must be dynamic and possess minimum skills such as: observation skills, decision-making skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, and delegation skills. These skills were mostly learned in university. Although they may not immediately meet job requirements, they are fundamental to implementing changes and improvements in management within the company.", Mr. Quang affirmed.

To support this observation, Mr. Quang stated that when he first started working at Daeil Tech, he focused on observing and noticed that Korean corporate culture prioritizes production, considering it a vital element for survival. However, management practices were often limited, particularly in financial and human resource management. These shortcomings led to financial losses and unstable production within the company.

Recognizing that human resources work is not just about specialized tasks like recruitment, training, payroll, social insurance, and other administrative duties, Mr. Quang constantly pushed himself to propose improvements, analyze and suggest policies to gain the trust and selection of the company's management team. True to his word, Mr. Quang wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Board of Directors outlining solutions to reduce production costs, successfully persuading him. The Chairman then implemented improvements ranging from organizational structure to management methods. Following these improvements, the company achieved significant results, including a reduction in annual production costs of 20 to 30 billion VND. Notably, in 2020, while revenue decreased by 20 billion VND compared to 2019, costs decreased by 120 billion VND. His improvements in human resource management also helped the company achieve numerous commendations from various levels and sectors, such as: a commendation for outstanding achievements in fulfilling state budget obligations in 2018 from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province, and a commendation for outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of skilled labor and building a strong trade union organization in 2020 from the Executive Committee of the Bac Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor...

Addressing students majoring in Management Science, Mr. Quang stated that, in the context of the country's strong development and integration, with the basic, necessary, and practical knowledge and skills provided by the university, not only Management Science but all fields offer good job opportunities. However, to broaden these opportunities, students need to equip themselves with skills including proficient computer use and, especially, foreign languages, because without foreign language skills, job opportunities will decrease by 70%.Currently, most universities have student clubs. These clubs should invite experienced business managers to share their knowledge and guide students, offering advice and information about business requirements to help students orient themselves towards careers and develop the necessary skills before graduation; and even better, to help them start their own businesses. This will provide them with practical knowledge and skills, making it easier for them to integrate into the workforce after graduation.", Mr. Quang remarked.
