At the conference, Vice Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his thanks to the teachers who directly participated in the 2017 school year enrollment, the teachers who are department heads, faculty leaders - those who have worked closely with the School to organize an effective and quality enrollment season. In the past, nearly 250 School staff participated in the enrollment work in many different positions. All orientations and strategies in enrollment activities received high consensus from all participating staff.
Evaluating the enrollment work last year, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has performed relatively well and effectively. With a completely new way of organizing the exam and setting questions, the 2017 National High School Exam has created fundamental, scientific and more effective changes in enrollment, especially not creating stress for candidates and minimizing costs for society. The work of participating in the organization of the National High School Exam has been seriously deployed by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in accordance with the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training, VNU and the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.
The 2017 university admission season also witnessed many bright spots, demonstrating the efforts and creativity of the staff participating in this work. The school has promptly provided necessary and updated information on regular university admission to candidates. Activities to promote the image as well as provide information on the majors have been carried out relatively well, both online and offline. Specifically, the Student Ambassador Program has organized 192 student ambassadors (USSH students) to provide information on regular university admission and provide consultation and support to candidates at 95 high schools in 15 provinces/cities in the Northern region. Online consultation programs via the admission website have been consistently implemented throughout the period from February to the end of August 2017, helping to effectively and promptly support candidates in the process of registering for regular university admission. The school's staff participating in organizing the high school exam coordinated well with local staff, ensuring that the exam took place safely, in accordance with regulations, without any unfortunate incidents or errors. Thanks to the application of information technology, the selection process was carried out publicly, transparently and accurately. The statistics, updating of selection data, and announcement of selection results were also carried out quickly, according to the set plan.
Admissions in 2017 are said to have made more progress than in 2015-2016, mainly due to the simplification of the examination method by the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as the close attention and direction of the school's leaders. However, "we can only be temporarily satisfied, but not completely satisfied with what has been done" - said Principal Hoang Anh Tuan.
In addition to the positive results, the remaining problems in the enrollment work of the last school year were also frankly identified. The high school exam had a low level of differentiation, while the priority scores for subjects and regions were too high, leading to many candidates with good exam scores but not being admitted to their desired majors. The fact that there is only one admission score for all admission combinations of each major has led to an imbalance in the rate of admitted candidates between the exam combinations/blocks. Some majors with high requirements for foreign languages such as Oriental Studies, Tourism and Travel Management, Hotel Management, International Studies, etc. have too many candidates in block C. The "virtual admission" rate is higher than expected. The enrollment of high-quality training programs has not met the set targets.
In the coming time, the school's leaders, departments and faculties will have a plan to perfect the 2018 enrollment direction to make it more effective, overcoming the remaining limitations in the 2017 enrollment period.
According to the summary report, in the 2017 school year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities achieved its undergraduate enrollment target of 102.98% with 1,610 students. It is expected that the number of students admitted to the undergraduate program will increase in 2018, when the University will enroll a new major: Southeast Asian Studies.
