Practical learning - a core condition for successful entrepreneurship.

Wednesday - November 1, 2017 00:50
On October 28, 2017, students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participated in a seminar with education experts focusing on a practical issue relevant to young people today: what is practical learning and what role does it play in entrepreneurship and in the success of each individual in life.

This event is part of a series of programs by the Trung Nguyen Coffee brand at universities in Vietnam with the theme: "The journey of great ambition in entrepreneurship and nation-building for Vietnamese youth." The unit directly coordinating the seminar is the Faculty of Management Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The guests of the seminar are: Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh (lecturers at the Foreign Trade University), and Mr. Duong Ngoc Huan (CEO of Dekiru Joint Stock Company).

Associate Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Vice Rector of the University) presented flowers to thank the speakers.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, when she was a student studying abroad, she noticed a paradox: Vietnamese students often scored significantly higher than students from other countries in the early stages. However, later on, the opposite happened; Vietnamese students gradually struggled, and their practical scores were particularly low. Later, when she became a university lecturer, she also realized that it wasn't difficult to find students with high scores, but it was much harder to find students who thoroughly understood the content taught by their professors.

This partly reflects the fact that many Vietnamese students only study if they have specific immediate goals and benefits, rather than necessarily studying for the sake of knowledge. Very few are willing to thoroughly examine a problem to understand it, and their critical thinking skills are particularly weak.

Broadly speaking, many people's lives are shaped from a young age with a predetermined path set by their parents and family, from which school to attend, to what job to do and where to work. The goal is safety and comfort, completely eliminating any element of personal passion. So, is that truly a desirable life? – lecturer Nguyen Hoang Anh poses this question.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh answers questions from students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Based on the story above, the female lecturer shared her perspective on genuine learning: "True learning" means genuinely understanding the problem and being able to solve it yourself, whether correctly or incorrectly. "Fake learning," on the other hand, means learning by following others' instructions, but when faced with practical problems, you are completely confused and passive, not knowing how to proceed.

Agreeing with the above statement, Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang believes that one of the most valuable things guiding us in life, which is often overlooked today, is the beauty of life. One cannot achieve great learning and a meaningful life if one does not know what is beautiful in life and what one truly wants to pursue. Without seeing the beauty that is far removed to guide us, we are unable to experience the most valuable things that happen in our lives.

Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang advised young people to take time to think about what they truly want in life and how to live a meaningful life. This will help them navigate their lives amidst the complex changes of modern life.

Ang Duong Ngoc Huan, a young CEO and founder of Dekiru Joint Stock Company, which provides online training solutions, shared lessons learned from his failures before achieving success in his current business. Due to a lack of practical experience, when he went to Japan to study, he faced many difficulties because of his poor foreign language skills, inadequate work skills, limited ability to integrate, and confusion in defining his life goals.

Driven by a desire for change, Duong Ngoc Huan studied Japanese, as well as Information Technology and Design, before returning to Vietnam. Drawing on his knowledge and experience, he aspired to create a product or useful solution that would enable people to learn foreign languages independently through the application of information technology. His company, Dekiru Joint Stock Company, despite its young age, has already established a significant brand value in the market and is highly regarded by Japanese partners.

Mr. Duong Ngoc Huan shared: "Learn through your passion and learn from your teachers' lectures, from life experiences... All that knowledge and experience can be the foundation for a valuable initiative in the future. Besides that, independent thinking, taking responsibility, and making decisions are also essential factors for successful entrepreneurship."

At the seminar, responding to the concerns of many young people when choosing a career, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh emphasized that every person needs a job to establish their social position, build their own value, and make certain contributions to the community and society. That is the greater meaning of entrepreneurship.

In reality, graduates can pursue many different jobs, sometimes unrelated to their initial field of study, such as: entrepreneurs, civil servants, lecturers, journalists, writers, singers, fashion designers, etc. Therefore, the concept of working in one's chosen field needs to be re-evaluated. Young people shouldn't let their initial field of study limit their career choices. If, after a while, they are dissatisfied with their current job, they should boldly seek out other work that brings them more meaning. And they should always be grateful for their life choices, because each choice brings them unique values and insights that help them grow and be themselves.
