Management Science celebrates 15th anniversary

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Head of the Faculty of Management Science) reviewed the outstanding achievements of the Faculty: Since 1995, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has started training in Social Management. In 1999, the Master's program in Science and Technology Management was established and this was also the time when the University began to build majors in Intellectual Property. These were the first foundations for the formation of the Faculty of Management Science later. On September 30, 2002, the President of VNU signed a decision to establish the Department of Management Science under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the basis of merging the Department of Social Management of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Department of Epistemology of the Faculty of Sociology. On August 11, 2006, the President of VNU signed a decision to establish the Faculty of Management Science with the main functions and tasks of undergraduate and postgraduate training and scientific research in the field of Management Science.

The Faculty currently has 5 departments: Department of Science, Technology and Innovation Management, Department of Intellectual Property Management, Department of Social Management, Department of Management Theory and Methods, Department of Public Policy. The Faculty's permanent staff includes 3 Associate Professors, 5 PhDs and 13 Masters. Regarding training, the Faculty has been implementing the Bachelor's training program in Management Science under the standard and high-level systems; 04 Master's training programs: Master of Science and Technology Management with research orientation and application orientation, Master of Management Science, Master of Science and Technology Management in collaboration with Lund University (Sweden) within the framework of Project 165 of the Central Organizing Committee, Master of Public Policy (will enroll from 2018); Doctorate in Science and Technology Management along with many short-term training courses on policy-making skills, leadership and management skills, and intellectual property law for students.

Regarding the lecture curriculum system, the Faculty has developed 84 sets of learning materials and textbooks for 89 subjects in the undergraduate training program, 21 sets of learning materials for 24 master's topics, of which 9 sets of learning materials are in English. The Faculty has trained 1932 full-time bachelors, 1728 part-time bachelors, 498 masters of Science and Technology Management, 116 masters of Management Science and 70 doctors of Science and Technology Management.

The Faculty's staff published 7 articles in ISI/Scopus journals, 99 articles with ISSN index, chaired 29 topics of all kinds, including 7 state-level topics, implemented 13 international projects, published 30 monographs, 9 translated documents; organized over 40 domestic conferences, 35 international conferences, and more than 60 seminars of all kinds.

The Faculty has established a close and regular international relationship network with more than 30 prestigious agencies and universities at home and abroad such as the Intellectual Property Office, Tsinghua University (China), National University of Singapore, Lund University (Sweden), Rosa Luxemburg Institute (Germany); cooperated with the National Assembly Office, local ministries and branches to implement cooperation activities with businesses, connect supply and demand, and support students in finding job opportunities.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University) said: Management Science is a special and highly interdisciplinary field in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In recent years, the Faculty has achieved many achievements, one of which is the construction of training programs at all three levels from bachelor, master to doctorate. In particular, the Faculty has very strong international cooperation activities. In the coming time, the biggest challenge is human resource management in the context of the 4.0 revolution, how to make human resource management professional and conquer both the hearts and minds of people. And I believe, in the past 15 years, with the support from the University, support from inside and outside the University, the Faculty of Management Science will certainly achieve its goals in the future.

Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung awarded the certificate of merit from the Minister of Science and Technology to the Faculty of Management Science and to Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong for his achievements in scientific research and contribution to promoting training in the period 2012-2016.

Comrade Nguyen Quang Phuc (Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Duong province) awarded certificates of merit from the People's Committee of Hai Duong province to the Faculty of Management Science and Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Head of the Faculty of Management Science), Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Thanh (Head of the Department of Management Theory and Methods) for their outstanding achievements in training human resources for Hai Duong province.

The ceremony also witnessed the signing of an official cooperation document between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Binh Minh Testing and Mapping Company Limited. Accordingly, the University will support the training of Masters in Science and Technology Management for businesses.

In the series of activities to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Faculty, there are many welcoming activities of students such as: camping, Golden Bell contest and Student Gala. In the photo: Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong presents prizes to the winning teams in the above contests.
