VNU Dormitories - An ideal destination for resident students

Dispelling the stereotype of cramped and outdated dormitories, the Hanoi National University dormitory complex has now become an ideal place to live for many students. Not only does it offer complete amenities such as a large, clean cafeteria, a mini-supermarket, and an internet cafe, but students also enjoy spacious and well-maintained rooms. Furthermore, students participate in numerous career counseling activities and skill development programs each year, ensuring a fulfilling student life.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) owns three dormitories (Me Tri, My Dinh, and Foreign Languages) managed by the Student Support Center, offering over 6,000 beds, with priority given to first-year students at 1,700 beds. Each room is 42 m2, has two private bathrooms, and is equipped with a water heater, wardrobe, and individual study desk and chair, making it extremely convenient for students to study and participate in extracurricular activities.

Me Tri Dormitory – An unforgettable destination for resident students.

The Me Tri Dormitory is located within the campus of 182 Luong The Vinh Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi, comprising two five-story and two four-story buildings with 294 rooms and a capacity of 1900 beds, offering various room types. 82% of the student rooms are equipped with air conditioning. The rooms are for students, researchers, and postgraduate students from the following institutions: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Natural Sciences, and the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences. In addition, the Me Tri Dormitory also provides housing for international students and experts studying and working at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

This could be considered a "5-star hotel" for VNU students. It features modern, comfortable, and elegant rooms, common areas, study rooms, and a library. Each room has a spacious balcony to let in natural light.

The Foreign Language Dormitory is located entirely within the premises of 144 Xuan Thuy Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi.

The Foreign Language Dormitory consists of 3 five-story buildings with 268 modern rooms, providing 1900 beds in various room types. 100% of student rooms are equipped with air conditioning.

Students residing at the Foreign Language Dormitory will have access to convenient services including: a cafeteria; a mini-supermarket; study rooms; clubs for cultural and sports activities; a gym, etc.

My Dinh Dormitory – Your Second Home

My Dinh Dormitory boasts numerous amenities, including a private laundry area, gym, aerobics room, cinema, supermarket, and post office. The dormitory also features a modern card-operated underground parking system, elevators to every floor, and a convenient bus service. In July 2021, the dormitory management officially implemented facial recognition software to support student management and ensure dormitory safety. My Dinh Dormitory consists of two buildings, Unit 1 and Unit 2, located within the My Dinh II Urban Area, with 388 rooms and 2324 beds for Vietnamese and international students studying at universities and colleges in Hanoi.

What makes this place special is its TDP (Training & Developing People) model, which is student-centered and aims to create a safe environment for training, learning, and enhancing intellectual, ideological, professional, and physical skills.

What is life like for students living in dormitories?

In addition to managing resident students, the Student Support Center always prioritizes student support, including support for daily life, studies, employment, and international students. Healthcare and the living environment in the dormitories are always given attention. Internal order and discipline in student rooms are consistently maintained. All staff and students uphold their responsibility to maintain cleanliness in their rooms and public areas, creating a "Green - Clean - Beautiful" environment in the dormitories.

The Student Support Center consistently prioritizes career counseling, guidance, and support for internships and employment for students through various activities: organizing Job Fairs; holding seminars with speakers and recruiters, creating a bridge between employers and students. Along with support for student life, internships, and employment, the academic clubs in the three dormitories of the Student Support Center provide a practical support environment, helping students develop their character and life skills, contributing to the training of high-quality, highly skilled human resources to meet the needs of society. Currently, the three dormitories have three English clubs, one Vietnamese club in the Me Tri dormitory, and one club for foreigners (CFFD) in the Foreign Language dormitory.

Implementing the policy of reform, aiming to provide support beyond just housing.

According to the leaders of the Student Support Center, VNU Hanoi: Leveraging information technology platforms to move towards digital transformation in student affairs, aiming to enable students to register for dormitory accommodation and complete procedures for moving into dormitories online.

Strengthen coordination with schools, businesses, alumni associations, etc., to attract support for the development of professional activities and organize collaborative activities to support students' lives, studies, and employment according to their needs and the actual conditions of the dormitory.

Develop plans and diversify the types of services related to students' lives, expanding and developing self-organized services such as refrigerator, bookshelf, shoe rack, room cleaning, etc., according to students' needs.

So who gets priority for accommodation in this modern dormitory complex?

  • Students include heroes of the People's Armed Forces, labor heroes, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, those receiving benefits similar to wounded soldiers, and students with disabilities.
  • HSSV includes children of martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, children of those receiving benefits similar to wounded soldiers, and children of people with meritorious service.
  • These students are part of the strategic training program of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • Students whose father or mother belongs to an ethnic minority group.
  • Students with permanent residence in mountainous areas or areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.
  • HSSV is an orphan, having lost both parents.
  • Students are children from poor or near-poor households according to current state regulations.
  • Students actively participate in activities organized by the school, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Student Association, the dormitory, or other social organizations.
  • Students who achieve high awards and high scores in the student excellence competition and university entrance exams.

The Student Support Center of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) has the mission of creating a favorable living environment for the learning, training, and scientific research of VNU students; effectively organizing support services for students, contributing to improving the quality of VNU's education. The Student Support Center has continuously developed and innovated to provide resident students with the best possible spiritual and academic life.

At the end of June, the Student Support Center of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, held a summary meeting on dormitory management for the 2020-2021 academic year. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the year-end summary meeting was conducted in a format where each dormitory prepared a report summarizing the 2020-2021 academic year and outlining the tasks and directions for the 2021-2022 academic year. This report was then sent to each student room to collectively review and evaluate the achievements of the past year, while also identifying shortcomings to be addressed in the coming academic years.

During the past academic year, the Student Support Center successfully completed many tasks: Organizing environmentally friendly cultural activities and community activities: Green Saturday, Fun Thursday, and thematic activities on environmentally friendly culture. Responding to the "Warm Winter 2020" program, it conducted charitable activities for disadvantaged students residing in the dormitory, participated in the election of representatives to the 15th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 term; and introduced many part-time jobs for students. In addition, the Me Tri Dormitory built a job database with 138 students and a database of off-campus housing for students with 89 addresses, 328 rooms, approximately 7000m2 of housing, with diverse room types, across 9 districts of Hanoi;…

In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Center awarded commendations to 40 dormitory groups and presented certificates of "Active participation in dormitory activities" to 40 individuals who had adhered to regulations and demonstrated a strong sense of community.
