[Thanhnien] From 5 a.m. on July 26, people lined up at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Many young people were also present to see off the General Secretary and assist people who came to pay their respects.

Being able to assist the people during the State Funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a source of pride for many young people. As soon as she received the announcement recruiting volunteers for the State Funeral, Dang Thuy Hang, a student at the Vietnam Youth Academy, quickly registered and took a bus overnight from Nam Dinh to Hanoi to be ready to work on July 25th.

“Upon hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, I was deeply moved and hoped to contribute my small effort to the funeral arrangements. The weather in Hanoi is quite harsh these days, but I don't feel tired. My heart, and the hearts of thousands of young people here, are always with him.”

Nguyen Chi Phuong, a student at Hanoi Law University, also expressed pride in being one of the lucky volunteers to serve at the General Secretary's funeral: "I am always proud to be a young Vietnamese. Wearing the green uniform of the Youth Union, I hope to contribute to supporting people from all over the country who came to pay their respects to Uncle Ho. Seeing the groups coming from so far away, I want to try even harder to help everyone by encouraging them, fanning them, and handing out water in the hot summer sun so that everyone can stay healthy and pay their last respects to Uncle Ho."

“Among many leaders, I’ve always been impressed by the General Secretary because of his silver hair, white glasses, the constant presence of a pen in his hand, and the two words ‘the people’ that he always mentioned. At an age when he should have been resting after a lifetime of hard work, the General Secretary still worked day and night until his last moments on his sickbed,” shared Pham Gia Han, a student at Newton Secondary and High School.

Despite her young age, Gia Han promised to always strive to study hard and contribute more to her family and country, as conveyed in the heartfelt message from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the young generation of Vietnam.
