Ministry of Education and Training: Reducing the number of political theory subjects from 5 to 3.

On March 25, 2008, the Permanent Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Banh Tien Long, signed a notice reducing the teaching load of political theory subjects for students in universities and colleges. Accordingly, students admitted from the 2008 intake onwards will study 3 compulsory political theory subjects (instead of the current 5 subjects) with a total duration of 15 credits.

Accordingly, students admitted from the 2008 intake onwards will study 3 compulsory political theory subjects (instead of the current 5 subjects) with a total duration of 15 credits.

Three subjects include: (1)The fundamental principles of Marxism-Lenin; (2)Ho Chi Minh Thought; and (3)The revolutionary line of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The Ministry of Education and Training will issue a decision in June 2008 to promulgate the detailed program and specific duration for schools to implement. Based on the existing teaching staff, and taking into account the training scale, duration, content of the program, and the specialization of each lecturer, schools will implement the new program as follows:

- SubjectThe fundamental principles of Marxism-LeninIt is built on the basis of the curriculum of the subjects.Marxist philosophy-Lenin,Marxist political economy-LeninandScientific socialismwith a duration of 5 credits.

- SubjectHo Chi Minh ThoughtNew topics will be added and taught over 2 credits.

- SubjectThe revolutionary line of the Communist Party of Vietnamwith content based on the subject matterParty Historyand the Party's socio-economic development guidelines.
