The "Startup Based on Intellectual Property Rights" competition

1. Purpose of the Competition

- Linking training with practical activities in Intellectual Property (IP) within the framework of cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Intellectual Property Office;

- Enhancing students' awareness of intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship;

- To encourage students' creativity and entrepreneurial spirit by connecting intellectual property knowledge and entrepreneurship;

- Facilitating networking and developing a sustainable startup ecosystem in universities, linked to intellectual property;

  • The competition also provides startup teams with the opportunity to connect with and learn from CEOs, investors, and startup experts; to receive advice and potentially successfully raise capital.

4. Participants

ButUniversity students who register to participate must do so with the Organizing Committee.

5. Time and location of the event

The final competition will be held at the following times:Saturday morning, May 11, 2019.

Venue for the final competition:Auditorium, 8th floor, Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, 336 Nguyen Trai Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi

6. Exam content

6.1. First part of the competition: Greetings

- Each team will prepare a presentation introducing their team, with content related to Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship.

- The time allotted for each greeting should not exceed 5 minutes.

- Scoring criteria: will be announced specifically to each participating team.

Maximum total score for the first part of the test: 10 points

6.2. Second part of the competition: IP Brain Challenge

- The organizing committee will ask 10 questions, and each team will have 30 seconds to discuss and provide an answer.

- Scoring method: Teams will receive 4 points for each correct answer.

Maximum total score for the second part of the test: 40 points

6.3. Third part of the competition: Entrepreneurship

- Each team has 10 minutes to present their startup project based on their intellectual property (they can combine the use of presentation methods).

- After the presentation, each team will have a maximum of two questions from the judges and one question from the sponsor/investor. The thinking time for each question is no more than five minutes. In addition, each other team has the right to ask one question to the presenter, and there is one question from the audience (if applicable).

- Scoring criteria: will be announced specifically to each participating team.

Maximum total score for the third part of the test: 50 points

6.4. Audience Participation Section

- Questions on intellectual property and innovative entrepreneurship will be prepared by the Organizing Committee or posed by the sponsor.

- The MC selects audience members to answer.

- For each correct answer, the audience member will receive a gift from the organizers.

7. Prize structure and value

- 20 selected ideas: Certificate, support of 200,000 VND/idea

- Five teams with five ideas were selected to compete in the final round:

+ 1st Prize:A trophy, 10 million VND, a trophy, a scholarship worth 1000 USD - participation in FIIS's SIP 100 intensive incubation program, an Ejoy English scholarship, and other gifts from sponsors.

+ 1 Second Prize:Certificates, 3 million VND, two scholarships worth 50% of the TOI course fee, two Ejoy English scholarships, and other gifts from sponsors.

+ 1 Third Prize:Certificates, 2 million VND, 2 scholarships worth 50% of the TOI course fee, 2 Ejoy English scholarships, and other gifts from sponsors.

8. Method of calculating the prize

- The maximum total score for all three parts of the game is100 points/teamThe prizes are awarded in descending order: 1st Prize, 2nd Prize, and 3rd Prize.

- The scoring system is determined by the judging panel and the organizing committee.

- The results of each competition round and the overall results will be announced by the judging panel.

ButThe organizing committee decides on the judging panel for the competition.

- The judging panel will decide on the scoring criteria for each part of the competition.

10. Secretariat

- The organizing committee has appointed a secretariat for the competition to ensure representativeness and transparency for all participating teams.
