The event took place in the context of Vietnam and China celebrating the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1950-2025), and at the same time celebrating the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the University of Literature and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The Rectors' Forum is a cooperation mechanism co-founded by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Honghe Academy (China) in 2014, aiming to promote research cooperation, talent training and enhance understanding between universities in the Red River basin. In 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will take on the role of host, continuing to lead academic cooperation between universities in Vietnam and Yunnan Province (China).
The Forum was attended by leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Board of Directors and representatives of units of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; leaders of 12 Vietnamese universities that are members of the Forum. On the Chinese side, there was the participation of Honghe Academy - the co-founder, Yunnan University - the host of the 5th Forum, and representatives of universities in Yunnan province. Scientists, lecturers and students of the two countries participated in exchanges and discussions at professional working sessions.

Within the framework of the program, the activity “Educational Exchange of Universities in the Red River Basin” took place on the campus of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, introducing training programs, research and cooperation potential of nearly 30 universities. The discussion sessions focused on training and research cooperation in the fields of social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering and technology; at the same time, announcing the cooperation plan for the period 2026-2027 and nominating the host unit of the 7th Forum in China.
The 6th Red River Basin University Rectors' Forum continues to affirm the connecting role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in developing regional educational cooperation, contributing to deepening the friendship and long-term cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese universities.
