Press Release: Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Celebrating 30 Years of Establishment

The Faculty of Tourism Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, announces the organization of a ceremony to celebrate its 30th anniversary (1995 – 2025) and to welcome Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20th. The event is organized with the official message: "30 Years of Humanistic Tourism - Spreading Wings to the Future".
Purpose and context of the commemoration
The celebration was held to summarize 30 years of pioneering in the field of humanistic tourism training and research, affirming the position and prestige of the Faculty's academic brand. The Faculty of Tourism Studies was recognized as the first unit in the country to offer Master's degrees in Tourism (in 2003) and Doctoral degrees in Tourism (in 2018), making a significant contribution to institutionalizing tourism studies as a scientific discipline in Vietnam. In particular, within the framework of the ceremony, the Faculty will have the honor of receiving the title of "Best Tourism Training Institution" awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2025.
Time and location:
The main event will take place from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The official venue is the Auditorium on the 8th floor, Building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU Hanoi).
The delegate reception and check-in area is the lobby on the 1st floor of Building E, from 13:30 to 14:30.

Attendees and keynote speakers
The ceremony was attended by the University's leadership, tourism industry leaders, former faculty members, alumni, partners, and media representatives. Speakers included: Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, who delivered a congratulatory speech; Dr. Ha Van Sieu - Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, who gave a speech and presented the award; and Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung - Head of the Faculty of Tourism Studies, who delivered a commemorative address.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Faculty of Tourism Studies over the past 30 years, particularly its pioneering role in building an academic foundation for tourism in Vietnam. He emphasized the Faculty's educational philosophy: taking scientific research as the foundation, closely linking theory and practice, and affirming the Faculty of Tourism Studies' position as a leading and prestigious training and scientific research center in the country.
Dr. Ha Van Sieu – Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration – expressed his joy and honor in representing the leadership of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration at this event. He affirmed his belief that, with a pioneering, creative, and developmental spirit, along with the strategy of "30 Years of Humanistic Tourism - Soaring to New Heights," the Faculty of Tourism Studies will continue to be a leading training and research center. He also outlined the Faculty's direction in continuing to make significant contributions to the successful and sustainable integration of Vietnam's tourism industry. Earlier, Dr. Ha Van Sieu, representing the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, performed the ceremony of awarding the title of "Best Tourism Training Institution" to the representative of the Faculty of Tourism Studies.
Representing the generations of former faculty members and leaders of the Faculty throughout the years, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Thanh - one of the pioneers who directly laid the foundation and steered the ship of Tourism Studies and co-editor of classic educational materials widely used in tourism training institutions nationwide, such as the book "Introduction to Tourism" and "Tourism Geography" - delivered a speech at the Anniversary Ceremony, sharing about the process of building the Faculty of Tourism Studies, emphasizing the Faculty's educational philosophy: Taking scientific research as the foundation, closely linking theory and practice.
Mr. Dao Duy Tuan (Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Education, Culture and Society, Government Office) - representing the generations of students and trainees of the Faculty who have matured and are now holding many important positions in management agencies, training institutions and tourism businesses nationwide - also gave a speech sharing about the process of growth after graduation and the contributions of generations of students and trainees to the development of Vietnamese tourism. His speech is considered the voice of those who have been and are continuing the glorious tradition, spreading knowledge, building the image, prestige and affirming the brand of the Faculty of Tourism Studies.
Highlights of the Program
The program was designed to be formal and emotionally rich, with key highlights.
The opening segment featured a welcoming cultural performance with three outstanding acts presented by students and alumni.
Next came the Awards and Recognition ceremony, announcing and presenting the title of "Best Tourism Training Institution" (from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), a Ministry-level Certificate of Merit, and a National University-level Emulation Flag. The highlight of the event was the 30th Anniversary Celebration, with the 30th Anniversary Sphere Activation Ceremony, marking the Faculty's development journey.
The event will conclude with a performance titled "Journey from the Heart" by alumni, showcasing the spirit of gratitude and connection.
