One of the main contents discussed the most at the working session was adjusting the organization of teaching common subjects such as: Basic principles of Marxism-Leninism, Physical Education and Foreign Languages. The opinions expressed all supported the policy of the leaders of VNU on unifying the organization and management of teaching common subjects to best promote the proactive role in management, avoiding overlapping tasks between units. On the other hand, unifying the organization and teaching of these subjects will create a specialized environment to improve the professional expertise of lecturers in each major. This is also consistent with the current policy of VNU on building and perfecting the VNU model in the direction of multi-disciplinary, multi-field with a systematic, interconnected, linked and highly unified management.

However, many opinions also expressed concerns about the implementation of the unification of training organization for common subjects at this time will encounter many difficulties in terms of facilities, human resources and management organization. These disturbances will most likely temporarily affect the training process and quality.

In addition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has presented the construction and development of new training majors and disciplines in line with the policy of diversifying training majors to serve the practical needs of society. In 2007 and 2008, the University submitted to VNU 4 projects on the construction and development of undergraduate training programs: Vietnamese Studies, Anthropology, Specialized English and Specialized Chinese.

Regarding the Vietnamese Studies training program, the School proposed that VNU create conditions to complete the facilities to deploy enrollment and organize training for bachelors in Vietnamese Studies from 2010-2011; at the same time, it would also allow the enrollment of foreign students in two forms: long-term regular and international cooperation according to the 2+2 model.

Regarding the training program in Anthropology, in February 2009, VNU assigned the School to organize undergraduate training in this field and enroll students from the 2009-2010 school year. Currently, the conditions for implementing training are being further improved to suit the credit-based training method.

In September 2008, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities submitted to VNU a proposal to open a bachelor's degree program in English/Chinese majoring in Tourism Studies/Management Science. To conform to VNU's orientation on building and developing new training programs, the University proposed to revise the above two programs according to the dual degree model: Tourism/Management Science - English/Chinese. VNU will organize the assessment of these programs and allow the University to enroll students from the 2010-2011 school year.

The school also requested VNU to allow it to submit a project to open new training majors, including: Southeast Asian Studies, Chinese Studies, Korean Studies, Japanese Studies and to establish the Confucius Research Center under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with the support of Guangxi University (China).

In addition, a number of other issues were also discussed during the meeting with the Director of VNU, such as: funding for the 16+23 program; upgrading facilities, creating more space to expand classrooms and workplaces at the University's facilities...

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan concluded some basic points and affirmed that he would continue to record and study the recommendations from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
