The Forest and Environment Magazine is launching its second writing contest on forest and environmental protection in 2016.

1. Purpose and significance:

– To disseminate information and raise community awareness about the role of forests, the environment, and nature in human life. To emphasize the importance of conserving valuable natural genetic resources, preserving biodiversity, and promoting sustainable forest and environmental development in Vietnam.

– Disseminating information about ethnic minority and mountainous region policies contributes to poverty reduction, helps ethnic minorities become aware of planting, caring for, and protecting forests, protecting the environment, preserving the unique culture of ethnic groups, contributing to building national unity, and ensuring national border security.

– To provide a comprehensive overview of events and activities related to the management, exploitation, and utilization of natural resources, forest resources, environmental protection, and climate change prevention and control.

– Recognize and highlight exemplary individuals who have made positive and effective contributions to the development of forestry economics, environmental economics, the rational and economical use of resources, and sustainable environmental protection.

2. Theme and genre of submitted works:

The content includes:

– Identify existing problems, shortcomings, and hotspots related to forests, resources, and the environment. Propose practical solutions to address these problems and difficulties.

– Writing about ethnic and mountainous region policies, poverty reduction, methods of planting, caring for and protecting forests, environmental protection, preserving unique ethnic cultures, contributing to building national unity, and ensuring national border security.

– Programs, projects, and concrete actions that bring about socio-economic benefits and sustainable development in the fields of forests, resources, and the environment.

– Raising community awareness in the planting, care, and protection of forests; protecting the environment and nature; and protecting wildlife.

– Highlight exemplary models of innovative approaches and models in the development of forest economy, environmental economy, and climate change adaptation and mitigation towards sustainable development.

– Highlighting exemplary individuals and good deeds in afforestation and forest protection, and in enriching lives through forestry, contributing to poverty reduction in mountainous, ethnic minority, remote, and disadvantaged areas; environmental protection; climate change prevention and control; and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters such as flash floods and landslides…

Categories of entries:

Articles, Feature stories, Interviews, Commentaries, Reports, Essays, Memoirs, Short stories, Photo essays.

3. Eligible participants:

– All professional and amateur writers, both domestic and international.

– Each person may submit no more than 3 articles. There is no limit on the number of photo essays.

4. General regulations:

– Eligible entries must be articles, reports, interviews, commentaries, essays, memoirs, feature stories, short stories, with a word count of 500 to under 1,500 words; photo essays have no limit on the number of photos, photo size 13 cm x 18 cm (actual photos, unedited); articles and photos must not have been published in central or local newspapers and magazines, or broadcast on other mass media. During the competition period, entries must not be submitted for publication in any books, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, special issues, or other publications (from the date the Organizing Committee launches the competition).

– Entries must be written in Vietnamese, with clear diacritics, no abbreviations, and no vulgar or offensive language. The content should be typed in Word, using Times New Roman font, size 14, and sent to the editorial office's email address (at the bottom of the page).

– Entries must be written by the author themselves, with illustrative photographs and photojournalism images taken in real life without any computer or other technical editing.

– The organizing committee has the full right to use the submitted works for editing and publication in print issues of the Forest and Environment Magazine and on the online magazine www.moitruongvadoisong.vn for promotional purposes (non-commercial).

5. Examination period:

– From January 22, 2016 to May 22, 2016.

7. Criteria for evaluating winning entries:

The selected works must meet the following criteria:

– Timeliness, accuracy, objectivity, and high informational value;

– Adhere closely to the content and themes outlined above by the organizing committee;

– The content of the work has a wide-ranging impact and lasting influence.

8. Competition Prizes:

The organizing committee selected the best works to award prizes, including:

– 1st Prize (A): 10 million VND

– 2 Second Prizes (5 million VND/prize)

– 5 Consolation Prizes (3 million VND/prize)

In addition to the prize money, the winning authors and their works will receive a Certificate from the organizing committee. (Winning works will be featured in a special issue commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Forest and Environment Magazine).

9. Announcement and Award Ceremony Schedule:

The Organizing Committee will present the awards at the Ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Forest and Environment Magazine (held on the occasion of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day, June 21, 2016, in Hanoi).
