Forest and Environment Magazine launched the 2nd writing contest on forest and environment protection in 2016.

1. Purpose and meaning:

– Propagating and raising public awareness about the role of forests, environment, and nature in human life. The importance of preserving precious natural genetic resources, preserving biodiversity, and sustainable development of forests and the environment in Vietnam.

– Propagating ethnic and mountainous policies, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, helping people to be aware of planting, caring for and protecting forests, protecting the environment, preserving the unique culture of the nation, contributing to building national solidarity, ensuring national border security.

– Reflect extensively on events, management activities, exploitation, use of natural resources, forest resources, environmental protection, and climate change prevention and control.

– Recognize and highlight examples of positive and effective contributions to the development of forestry economy, environmental economy, rational and economical use of resources and sustainable environmental protection.

2. Theme and genre of entries:

Contents include:

– Detect existing problems, shortcomings, and hot spots in forests, resources, and the environment. Propose practical solutions to overcome these problems and difficulties.

– Write about ethnic and mountainous policies, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, methods of planting, caring for and protecting forests, protecting the environment, preserving unique national culture, contributing to building national solidarity, and ensuring national border security.

– Programs, projects, and specific practical actions that bring about socio-economic efficiency and sustainable development in the fields of forests, resources, and environment.

– Raising community awareness in planting, caring for and protecting forests; protecting the environment and nature; protecting wildlife;

– Set a typical example in new ways and new models in developing forest economy, environmental economy, responding to and mitigating climate change towards sustainable development.

– Set good examples of good people and good deeds in afforestation and forest protection, get rich from forests, contribute to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in mountainous areas, ethnic minority areas, remote areas, ethnic minority areas; Protect the ecological environment; Prevent and combat climate change, overcome the consequences of natural disasters such as flash floods, landslides, etc.

Articles, Reflections, Interviews, Commentaries, Reports, Memoirs, Essays, Short Stories, Photojournalism.

3. Contestants:

– All professional and amateur writers at home and abroad.

– Each person can submit no more than 3 articles. There is no limit on the number of photo essays.

4. General provisions:

– Eligible works must be articles, reflections, interviews, comments, memoirs, notes, reports, short stories, with a number of 500 to under 1,500 words, photo reports with no limit on the number of photos, photo size 13 cm x 18 cm (actual photos without editing); articles and photos have not been printed in newspapers and magazines at the central or local level or posted or broadcast on other mass media. During the contest, entries cannot be sent to print in books, newspapers or magazines, newsletters, special issues, or other topics (from the date the Organizing Committee launched the contest).

– Entries must be written in Vietnamese, with clear accents, no abbreviations, no vulgar or offensive language. Content must be typed in Word, Times New Roman font, 14-point font, and sent to the editorial office mailbox (at the bottom of the page).

– Contest entries must be written by the author himself, with actual illustrations and photo reports taken without editing on a computer or other technical means.

– The organizing committee has full rights to use the entries for editing and publishing in issues of Forest and Environment Magazine (print) and on the electronic magazine www.moitruongvadoisong.vn for propaganda purposes (non-commercial).

5. Contest period:

– From January 22, 2016 to May 22, 2016.

6. How to submit entries:

7. Criteria for evaluating winning works:

Selected works must meet the following criteria:

– Timeliness, accuracy, objectivity, high information value;

– Stick to the content and topics the organizers have mentioned above;

– The content of the work has a wide impact and long-lasting influence.

8. Contest prizes:

The organizers selected the best works to award prizes including:

– 1 First Prize 10 million VND

– 2 Second Prizes (5 million VND/prize)

– 5 Consolation Prizes (3 million VND/prize)

In addition to the prize money, the authors and winning works will be accompanied by a Certificate from the Organizing Committee. (The winning works will be introduced and printed in the special issue commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Forest and Environment Magazine).

9. Time of announcement and awarding:

The Organizing Committee will present the award at the 10th Anniversary Ceremony of Forest and Environment Magazine (held on the occasion of the Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, June 21, 2016, in Hanoi).
