The 2012 Conference of Key Officials of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities took place on June 9, 2012. At the conference, delegates heard a report summarizing the 2011-2012 academic year, discussed the direction and tasks for the 2012-2013 academic year, and debated several important issues for the upcoming academic year: Building a qualified staff to quickly integrate into the regional and international arena; Developing and advancing disciplines and specializations to international standards; Creating high-quality scientific products to serve training and national development needs; and Innovating university governance towards building and implementing an advanced university governance system.In the 2011-2012 academic year, the University basically completed the planned targets. Regarding training, the University successfully and on schedule adjusted the curriculum according to output standards, developed new training programs to meet social needs; continued to invest effectively in learning materials; actively innovated teaching methods; and initially implemented university administration. Scientific research activities yielded good results thanks to the diversification of funding sources, the diversification of research topics, and scientific activities. The University had 5 lecturers awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for exceptionally outstanding research works; 4 lecturers were nominated for the title of Excellent Lecturer in 2012; and 1 collective and 4 individuals were awarded the Third Class Labor Medal. In the 2012-2013 academic year, the key tasks were identified: - Continuing to improve the quality and effectiveness of undergraduate and postgraduate training; Effectively implement 3 component projects under the National University's Master Plan; implement the project "Taking on the task of training lecturers with doctoral degrees in social sciences and humanities for universities and colleges" of the Ministry of Education and Training; finalize output standards and adjust training programs to suit credit-based training. - Implement, propose, and lead the implementation of 1 national-level scientific program or 3-5 national-level scientific projects; build 3-5 strong research groups; focus on increasing the publication of research results in international scientific journals. - Build and develop a team of lecturers and management staff to gradually meet standards. - Refine regulations on student management to suit the credit-based training method, and promote student counseling and support in learning and career guidance. - Strengthen the evaluation of training programs, and evaluate the Linguistics program according to AUN standards. - Innovate university governance, issue and apply management processes according to ISO standards in management and operation activities.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, assessed: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities achieved many encouraging results in the past academic year. The number of candidates registering for the entrance exam increased by 28%, with applications for Group A subjects increasing threefold, demonstrating that the social sciences and humanities fields still attract great interest from society. The University has implemented the transformation of undergraduate and postgraduate training programs in a systematic and timely manner, while also taking important and bold steps in innovating methods such as: building subject websites, piloting lecturer selection, organizing training courses to improve the capacity of staff... The University's leadership team is basically stable, with continuity, aiming for sustainable development. The University is also a leader in rejuvenating its staff and paying special attention to young staff members. The development of four key action programs in the 2012-2013 academic year demonstrated that the University is not complacent with its achievements but is determined to continuously strive to find directions and solutions for development in the new circumstances. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Kim Son commented: “The position of the University and of the Social Sciences and Humanities disciplines within the structure of Vietnam National University, Hanoi is increasingly enhanced. With research projects that exploit interdisciplinary aspects, Vietnam National University, Hanoi always pays attention to exploiting the Social Sciences and Humanities as a strength and a source of pride for the University.”
