On June 10, 2012, the Scientific and Training Council of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the 2009-2014 term held its sixth meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Chairman of the Council.Attending the meeting were Prof. Dr. Phung Huu Phu - Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, along with representatives from the Science and Technology Board and the Training Board of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Council listened to and discussed three important issues: - The situation of transforming training programs according to output standards and the issue of major names and codes at the undergraduate level; - The situation of transforming and evaluating training programs according to output standards at the postgraduate level; - The Project for the Development of Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam in the 21st Century. At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Science and Training Council - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh concluded with several basic points: Firstly, the arrangement of training fields must be based fundamentally on the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, with adjustments appropriate to the content and specific characteristics of each field. This adjustment needs to ensure a balance between increasing interconnectedness without reducing the ability to provide specialized knowledge orientation for each field. Based on that, the Council proposes maintaining the current subject areas and will study adjustments to the courses within each area to make them more appropriate. Secondly, the organization of training for some majors such as Information Technology & Office Management, Tourism Studies, and Information & Library Science must both ensure consistency with the industry codes of the State agencies and maintain the basic science orientation, which is the traditional strength of the University. Accordingly, the majors...Archival Studies and Office ManagementUse the industry code name asArchival Studiesand training, awarding Bachelor's degrees in Information Technology and Public Administration. The Information and Library Science major uses the major code nameInformation Scienceand training, awarding Bachelor's degrees in Information Technology and Television. The Tourism Studies major uses the industry code name.Tourism and Travel Service ManagementThirdly, the school trains and awards degrees in Tourism and Travel Service Management. In the future, this field may be separated and developed into two disciplines: Hotel Management and Tourism Management. Thirdly, the school is oriented towards development in two directions: building training programs based on basic science and developing training programs based on applied science, with priority given to investing in funding and human resources to develop basic science disciplines and socialize applied science disciplines. Fourth, the national science and technology development strategy for the period 2011-2020 identifies the task of building and implementing a program for the development of Vietnamese social sciences and humanities until 2020. As a leading university in Vietnamese social sciences and humanities, the University needs to plan and develop a project for the development of social sciences and humanities in the 21st century to fulfill its responsibility towards the development of Vietnamese social sciences and humanities, while also creating conditions to become one of the top 10 basic research organizations among key universities in Vietnam that meet the standards for integration with the region and the world. The University will direct the establishment of a group of experts to research and propose a large-scale research program in social sciences and humanities, focusing on key issues such as: policy development orientation for Vietnamese social sciences and humanities to serve the cause of national construction and development; research on training, development, and utilization of human resources in social sciences and humanities; Organize and effectively utilize research and training organizations for human resources in social sciences and humanities… Research results will be transferred to Party and State agencies.
