Four students from Vietnam National University, Hanoi won 1 Gold Medal and 3 Silver Medals at the 2015 International Informatics Olympiad.

From July 26th to August 2nd, 2015, the 27th International Olympiad in Informatics took place in Kazakhstan. The Vietnamese team, consisting of four students from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, achieved the best results since 2000, with one Gold Medal and three Silver Medals.

With this achievement, the Vietnamese team ranked 8th out of 84 participating teams at the 2015 International Informatics Olympiad and topped the Southeast Asian rankings.

Associate Professor Pham Bao Son, Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, led the delegation. The University of Technology is the focal point assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to train the Vietnamese Informatics team to participate in regional and international competitions.

Pham Van Hanh, a 12th-grade student, brought home a gold medal for the Vietnamese team.

The three contestants who won Silver Medals are Phan Duc Nhat Minh, a 11th-grade student; Nguyen Viet Dung, a 12th-grade student; and Nguyen Tien Trung Kien, a 12th-grade student.

The Ministry of Education and Training will hold a welcoming ceremony for the Vietnamese delegation participating in the 2015 International Informatics Olympiad and present Certificates of Merit from the Minister to the winning contestants at Noi Bai International Airport at 1:45 PM on August 3, 2015.

Vietnam began participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics in 1989 and achieved high results. The Vietnamese team ranked first overall at the 1999 International Olympiad in Informatics in Türkiye among 67 participating countries, surpassing strong teams such as Russia and the United States.

Previously, at the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Chiangmai, Thailand, students from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences won 1 Gold Medal (Nguyen The Hoan, 12th grade student) and 1 Silver Medal (Nguyen Tuan Hai Dang, 11th grade student).

Le Xuan Luong (a 11th-grade student from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences) also won a Bronze Medal at the 26th International Biology Olympiad in Aarhus, Denmark.
