
The doctoral dissertation of PhD candidate Tran Bach Hieu (Lecturer in the Faculty of Political Science) was initiated in 2010, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University). The dissertation is structured into four parts: Chapter 1 – Overview of the research topic; Chapter 2 – Theoretical and practical basis of the East Asian political landscape after the Cold War; Chapter 3 – The East Asian political landscape from 1991 to 2011; and Chapter 4 – Some observations on the East Asian political landscape from 1991 to 2011 and recommendations for Vietnam.
The evaluation committee highly appreciated the efforts of PhD candidate Tran Bach Hieu in his research, daring to undertake a difficult topic, and always striving to overcome shortcomings after each revision. The thesis structure is clear, fairly balanced, and meets the requirements of a doctoral thesis.
This dissertation has practical value, scientific significance, and is relevant in the current political climate of East Asia, which is undergoing changes with the rise of China, leading to considerable political instability.
PhD candidate Tran Bach Hieu is a lecturer in the Department of Political Science but is pursuing a doctoral program in Modern and Contemporary World History within the Department of History. However, he still managed to integrate both political and historical elements into his research topic. As a result of the defense, 6 out of 7 members of the committee evaluated the dissertation as excellent.
Moreover, PhD candidate Tran Bach Hieu is currently the Secretary of the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Balancing teaching duties, fulfilling the responsibilities of a Youth Union officer, and completing his doctoral dissertation demonstrates the tremendous effort of PhD candidate Tran Bach Hieu. At only 30 years old, he has achieved considerable success in his career and life. He is a worthy representative of the Youth Union members and young people of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, a role model for the youth of the humanities to emulate..
