Recently, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed decisions appointing the Dean's Board of the Faculty of Literature for the 2015-2020 term, including: Dr. Pham Xuan Thach (Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Literature) as Dean of the Faculty of Literature; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (Lecturer in the Faculty of Literature) as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Literature; Dr. Nguyen Thu Hien (Lecturer in the Faculty of Literature) as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Literature; and Ms. Dinh Thanh Hieu (Lecturer in the Faculty of Literature) as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Literature.
At the ceremony, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University - presented the appointment decisions to the new Dean's Board and also delivered a speech assigning tasks to the Faculty of Literature for the coming period.

Professor, Doctor, and People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh presented flowers to express gratitude for the contributions of the previous Dean's Board of the Faculty of Literature, including Associate Professor, Doctor Doan Duc Phuong, Associate Professor, Doctor Pham Thanh Hung, and Ms. Pham Anh Sao.
The speech affirmed the remarkable achievements of the Faculty of Literature over the past years, including the significant contributions of the Faculty's Executive Board during the 2010-2015 term. The Faculty of Literature has undergone innovations in many aspects of its activities, maintaining its position and prestige as a leading research and training unit. The Party Committee and the University's Board of Directors expect that the new Executive Board, with its young, capable, and enthusiastic staff, will create even more breakthroughs and innovations for the Faculty of Literature in the future.

Professor Nguyen Van Khanh suggested that the Faculty of Literature continue to implement innovative solutions and create breakthroughs for development.
To achieve this, the Rector suggested that the Faculty focus on implementing the following key tasks:
For the field of Sino-Vietnamese Studies – a particularly important and unique discipline of the Faculty and the University – the Faculty needs to invest more heavily in building its staff, developing learning materials, and expanding cooperative relationships to serve development and meet the growing needs and interests of society and students. For the field of Literature, the Faculty needs to explore and open up new directions to broaden the scope and activities of the Literature discipline, linking literary research with research and applications in the fields of culture and art. The Faculty of Literature must be the core force in building and developing the University's Center for Research and Application of Culture and Arts into a strong research and training institute in the future; opening up new, necessary specialties for society such as Cultural and Heritage Management…
In addition, the Faculty needs to pay more attention to training and developing a team of qualified and capable staff and lecturers to meet the requirements of high-quality, high-level training; and overcome the shortage of successor and leading personnel.
In recent years, despite considerable efforts, the Faculty has not fully realized its potential in scientific research, as evidenced by the lack of large-scale research projects. To address this situation, the Faculty needs to proactively develop and participate in bidding for major research projects, programs, and initiatives, focusing on solving some of the pressing issues in literature, culture, and art today.
Finally, the Faculty needs to establish and expand cooperative relationships with research institutions in literature, culture, Sino-Vietnamese studies, and art, both domestically and internationally, in order to transform external resources into internal strengths to serve development.
Dr. Pham Xuan Thach - Head of the Faculty of Literature, presented the Faculty's development strategy for the next 5 years.
On behalf of the new Faculty Board, Dr. Pham Xuan Thach affirmed: deeply aware of the Faculty's potential and the internal strength of the staff, and based on the understanding of inheriting the traditions, strengths, and achievements of the Faculty over the past nearly 60 years, the new Faculty Board will assume the responsibility of managing the Faculty with the utmost dedication and sense of responsibility.
The Faculty of Literature's development strategy for the next five years will focus on innovation in all aspects of its operations while maintaining the stability of the Faculty and maximizing the strengths and potential of its staff.
Firstly, the Faculty will continue to recruit personnel for several departments, develop a plan for the rational and effective use of existing staff resources, link personnel planning with the standardization of teaching and scientific research workloads, and plan to develop a roadmap for standardizing staff academic titles and degrees.

Secondly, actively innovate university training programs towards streamlining, modernizing, and updating with the latest achievements in scientific research worldwide and meeting societal needs; promote the development of non-formal training aimed at diversifying training types, consolidating and supplementing short-term training programs; continuously improve postgraduate training programs and enhance their quality; develop a roadmap to increase the coverage of textbooks for subjects from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, and create a number of specialized textbooks with high professional quality and scientific content.
Thirdly, the Faculty aims to develop several strong, modern, interdisciplinary research directions that meet the development of linguistics worldwide and societal needs. Based on this, within the next five years, the Faculty will establish 1-2 strong research groups and form several large research clusters bringing together personnel from various disciplines.
Fourth, strengthen and expand cooperative relations domestically and internationally, actively and responsibly participate in major programs and projects of the University such as the reform of student recruitment, the establishment of a specialized high school for social sciences and humanities, and the establishment of a research and application institute for culture and arts.

Dr. Pham Xuan Thach, on behalf of the faculty, also extended congratulations to the new students – those who had just passed the first-ever aptitude test organized at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to become students of the Faculty. The Dean of the Faculty advised the students to continue to maintain their courageous spirit, dare to overcome difficulties and prejudices, and dare to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to their chosen profession.
