On March 25th, the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a talk on scientific research report presentation skills for students with two guest speakers: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Thi Phung (Head of the Department of Archival and Office Management) and Ms. Pham Anh Sao (Deputy Head of the Department of Literature). The lecturers summarized the most important theoretical issues and shared very useful practical experiences, along with vivid and specific examples, to help students grasp the necessary skills in presenting scientific reports.According to Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung, presenting a scientific report is a very important step in the research process; it's when you share with everyone the results achieved after a period of serious work and effort: "To present well, you need to grasp a number of principles and skills. Good preparation accounts for 50% of the success, while good presentation execution and handling situations during the presentation determine the remaining 50%." Good preparation means having a firm grasp of the topic you're discussing, the problem you're researching, and feeling enthusiastic about sharing that problem with others. Next is choosing what to say, building a presentation script with impressive slides. Finally, preparing to overcome psychological obstacles when speaking in front of a crowd is crucial. She also guided the students on specific skills in selecting the content to present; The key is to present the issue concisely, clearly, and coherently, ensuring a connection between the constituent parts; to use a natural and persuasive tone of voice, language, and body language; to respond to counterarguments and defend one's own viewpoint; and to cultivate appropriate behavior in interactions with others. Beyond purely technical aspects, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung believes that for a good research project in general, and an effective presentation in particular, it is crucial that students are passionate, enthusiastic, and love their research work and the problem they are studying. This means students must conduct genuine research with dedication and invest time and effort into their work. This is the fundamental and essential element for a truly effective, engaging, and naturally impressive presentation. Ms. Pham Anh Sao emphasizes that a scientific report is a crucial initial step in preparing students to write a scientific paper later on. Students need to focus on building and highlighting the scientific meaning and content of their reports. The Vice Dean of the Faculty of Literature also shared the common feelings of students when writing a scientific report for the first time, which are anxiety, feeling a lack of specialized knowledge, methodology, foreign languages, and other skills… Therefore, “you must be proactive, persistent, and determined so that you don't give up halfway.”
