Germany's experience in political communication.

Ms. Miriam Viola von Wrochem, a freelance consultant and advisor to the Federal Press and Information Office in Berlin (Federal Republic of Germany), gave a presentation on the functions of the German government's Press and Information Office, methods of political communication, and the interaction between the government and citizens at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on May 28, 2013.

Ms. Rabea Brauer, Head Representative of the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung Institute of Germany in Vietnam, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh – Vice Rector of the University, along with faculty and students of the University, attended the presentation.

During the presentation, Ms. Miriam Wrochem stated that the German Federal Government not only allows citizens access to political information but also has an obligation to provide information on important political issues to the public. The government spokesperson, who is also the head of the Information and Press Office, will be the one to provide information about the Chancellor's meetings and appointments…

The German Press and Information Office is responsible for providing information to the public, the government, and the press on various issues related to public policy, duties, and rights; and organizing media campaigns on important political and social issues. At the same time, this agency is also accountable for matters related to journalistic activities. To meet the needs of the press, it has a dedicated website, holds press conferences three times a week to provide more in-depth information and important government documents. Furthermore, social media is now also used as a direct information channel to provide information to the press and the public.

During the presentation, many lecturers and students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities asked questions and exchanged views on issues such as: difficulties and challenges in political communication, handling conflicting information, information security, etc.

Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh – Vice Rector of the University – emphasized: Political journalism and the relationship between the government and citizens are important aspects of political science and communication. Political communication is a gateway through which countries can exchange and learn from each other. Ms. Miriam Wrochem's presentation provided important information, giving students the opportunity to expand their knowledge and understand the importance, role, and connection between politics and communication.
