Meeting with the Director of the Korea Research Institute

On February 19, 2014, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received Professor Chung-Sok Suh, Director of the Institute of Korean Studies, University of New South Wales (Australia). Also present were Professor Mai Ngoc Chu (President of the Association for Korean Studies in Vietnam), Dr. Luu Tuan Anh (Faculty of Oriental Studies), and Dr. Tran Thuy Anh (Deputy Head of the Department of External Relations and International Training Cooperation).

During the meeting, Professor Chung-Sok Suh provided information regarding the international conference on Korean Studies in Southeast Asia, to be held at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in September 2014. The conference will present the latest research findings on Korean Studies, guide and promote Korean Studies education and research in Southeast Asia, and aim to build a Korean Studies network in Asia. Professor Chung-Sok Suh extended an invitation to Professor Nguyen Van Khanh and other Vietnamese scientists to participate and submit papers for the conference.

During the meeting, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh stated that the university wishes to expand its cooperative relationship with universities, foundations, and organizations in South Korea. This aims not only to build and develop Korean studies in Vietnam but also to learn from the development experiences of Korean universities in the context of current international integration. The Rector also proposed collaborating with Korean partners to organize a workshop on university governance innovation – experiences from South Korea and internationally, particularly on building a team of internationally qualified staff.

Representatives from both sides agreed to strengthen information sharing and linkages between universities conducting research on Korean studies, and to seek scholarships and funding for research activities, as well as faculty and student exchanges between Vietnam and Korea.
