Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc- Head of Training Department, Deputy Head of Admissions Steering Committee sharedaboutnew points inadmissionfull-time university2022 of VNU.
- Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, could you please tell us some basic information about the 2022 enrollment plan of VNU?
Basically, VNU's admission methods remain stable as in 2021 on the principle of ensuring input quality and we always identify this as the top criterion of VNU.
At the same time, in order to attract more excellent candidates, improve input quality, and enhance international integration, VNU will expand the admission rate based on the results of the competency assessment test (CAT), expand the scale of organizing CAT exams of VNU - allocating more quotas for this method to consider university admission in 2022.
It is expected that in 2022, VNU will have 13,150 enrollment targets for 143 majors/training programs, of which 08 new majors meeting the trends of the human resource market will begin organizing enrollment and training.
Admission methods are similar to 2021, including:
(1) Direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, special regulations on specialized high school training of VNU and the 2022 regular university admission guidelines of VNU;
(2) Consider candidates whose 2022 high school exam results meet the input quality assurance threshold prescribed by VNU;
(3) Candidates are admitted using the results of the National High School Examination organized by VNU in 2022 with a minimum score of 80/150 points or higher (for some health majors: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, the quality assurance threshold is at least 100 points) and in 2022 VNU will increase and reserve at least 20% of the quota for this method.
(i) Candidates with an international certificate from the Cambridge University Examinations Center, UK (abbreviated as A-Level certificate): Candidates using an A-Level certificate have results of 3 subjects, including Math or Literature according to the prescribed combinations of the corresponding training major, ensuring that the score for each subject is 60/100 points or higher (equivalent to a C grade, PUM range ≥ 60).
(ii) Candidates with SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test, USA) scores of 1100/1600 or higher. VNU's registration code with the SAT testing organization (The College Board) is 7853-Vietnam National University-Hanoi
(iii) Candidates with ACT (American College Testing) standardized test scores of 22/36.
(iv) Combined admission: Candidates have an IELTS English certificate of 5.5 or higher or equivalent international English certificates (specified in Appendix 1 of Instruction No. 1365/VNU-DT) or other international foreign language certificates (specified in Appendix 2 of Instruction No. 1365/VNU-DT) and meet one of the following conditions:
- Have an average high school grade point average of the remaining two subjects in the admission combination (including Math or Literature) of 8.0 or higher, with no subject below 7.0 in each semester and pass the interview of the Admissions Council;
- The total score of the remaining 2 subjects in the admission combination must be at least 14 points in the 2022 high school graduation exam (including Math or Literature, for health majors: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, the score of the remaining 2 subjects in the admission combination must be at least 16 points).
For some medical and pharmaceutical training majors and other highly competitive training majors, priority will be given to candidates with an IELTS English certificate of 6.5 or higher combined with specialized subjects (the average high school grade point average of the remaining 2 subjects in the admission combination (including Math or Literature) is 8.5 or higher and no subject is below 8.0 in each semester).
International certificates must be valid as of the date of application (valid for 02 years from the date of exam).
Candidates submit applications for admission by direct admission, priority admission and admission by other methods (GNL, SAT, ACT, A-level, IELTS combined with high school academic scores or high school graduation exam scores, etc.) before July 15, 2022 according to the Instructions of Schools/Faculties of VNU.
The point I want to emphasize is that the admission for high-quality training programs mostly uses admission combinations with a Foreign Language subject. For the few combinations that do not have a Foreign Language subject, Foreign Language will be a conditional subject (candidates must achieve a minimum foreign language score of 6.0 or higher or the learning results of each semester of the Foreign Language subject at high school level must achieve a minimum score of 7.0 or equivalent international foreign language certificates in the list of regulations of VNU) to ensure the necessary foreign language proficiency for candidates to be able to study these programs and meet international job positions after graduation.
In addition to performing well in domestic enrollment, VNU continues to promote international student exchange activities, attracting foreign candidates to study English-taught training programs at member schools/affiliated faculties.
- Could you please give us more information about the new training programs that VNU will organize for enrollment this year?
With the position of a center for university training, scientific research and multidisciplinary knowledge transfer, VNU always surveys the human resource needs of the labor market to be able to build training programs that meet the strict requirements of the 4.0 labor market. This year, we build 08 new training programs to ensure high-quality human resources, which are: majorsArtificial intelligenceof University of Technology; industrySmart and Sustainable Agriculture Engineer,Civil Engineering Engineerof Vietnam-Japan University; majorEntertainment and Event Management,Smart and sustainable urban governanceg of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences; in particular, the International School opens 03 combined bachelor and master training programs: majorApplied information technology,Industrial Systems Engineering and Logistics,Financial Technology and Digital Business.

VNU participates in Admissions Consulting Day organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper
- This is the first time VNU has opened a combined bachelor's and master's training program. Could you elaborate on the superiority of these training programs?
The combined bachelor and master training model is a new training model, implemented for the first time at VNU. Accordingly, students have the opportunity to register for a master's degree and accumulate master's credits right from the last year of the undergraduate program. The first advantage of this model is that students can shorten the training time. Specifically, the undergraduate training time is 4 years and the combined training time is 5 years, instead of 6 years like the current separate training model.
Second, students of these training programs are taught in English right from the knowledge block of the industry and industry groups. By the end of the second year, students must reach English level B2, equivalent to level 4 in the 6-level competency framework of Vietnam. In addition, the courses have the participation of businesses from the program development stage to the training organization, so students have good practical experience and the ability to respond well to work.
- Regarding the admission method using the National High School Exam, what is the admission quota for this method, Professor?
The innovation of admission by the method of national high school graduation exam at VNU is a breakthrough and necessary solution as well as demonstrates the pioneering role of VNU in implementing Resolution 29 on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training. The results of the national high school graduation exam achieved the goals of quality, process, results, similarity, and balance of difficulty/ease according to modern measurement and testing science.
In 2022, VNU plans to organize 16 rounds of National High School Graduation Exams for high school students, starting from February to August for about 70,000 candidates. Member schools/faculties under VNU and/or universities nationwide can use the exam results for university admission in 2022. To date, more than 60 universities nationwide have registered to use the National High School Graduation Exam results as a basis for admission.
The structure of the National High School Exam consists of 150 questions divided into three parts: Quantitative Thinking (50 questions in 75 minutes), Qualitative Thinking (50 questions, 60 minutes) and Science (50 questions in the fields of natural sciences, technology and social sciences, 60 minutes). Candidates take the exam on a computer, the questions are in the form of objective multiple choice (choose one of four answers) and fill in the answers. The total time to do the exam is 195 minutes, the score scale is 150. For this method, candidates with a National High School Exam result of 80 points or higher can register for admission.
The test will be highly classified, assessing students' abilities according to 3 groups of competencies according to the output standards of the general education program; aiming to be positively correlated with the graduation exam results but with a higher level of difficulty and classification. Ready to be used for university admissions and help schools choose the right and enough quality candidates to study in highly competitive majors with high entrance scores (for example, Health, IT, foreign languages, economics, Oriental studies, Korean studies, etc.).
In 2022, VNU will reserve at least 20% of the total quota for admission based on the results of the National High School Exam. For talented, high-quality majors/training programs, "hot" majors with high admission scores above 26 points will reserve 25-30% of the admission quota for admission based on the National High School Exam results.
- What about other admission methods, Professor?
In 2022, VNU will continue to stabilize the admission method similar to 2021 on the basis of adjusting a number of regulations and policies on direct admission to be consistent with the general admission policy of the Ministry of Education and Training and ensure the recruitment of qualified candidates to study at VNU.
VNU-Hanoi conducts direct admission, priority admission and admission based on high school graduation exam results according to the general regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. It also directly admits candidates with results in standardized exams such as SAT, ACT, A-Level, and candidates with international language certificates (IELTS or equivalent) that meet the input quality assurance threshold.
For candidates who have graduated from high school and have an international English certificate (IELTS, TOEFL) or some other international foreign language certificates (listed by VNU), combined with the scores of 2 subjects in the admission combination of the major/training program (in which Math or Literature is required). Candidates who are foreigners or Vietnamese people studying high school abroad will be admitted according to VNU's separate regulations on admission of foreigners to study at VNU, international students returning to study in the country due to the impact of the epidemic.
In addition, VNU expands the direct admission criteria, giving priority to candidates who won prizes in the VNU Olympic exams, candidates who won excellent student awards at the provincial/municipal level, candidates from specialized high schools nationwide with excellent academic results and high school graduation exam results that meet the threshold to ensure the input quality of the major/group of majors/training programs.
- How will the admission confirmation at VNU be this year, Professor?
This year, VNU continues to organize online Admission Confirmation for candidates, which provides optimal support for candidates, helps limit travel and avoids the loss of candidates' documents when sending by post.
Detailed information on VNU's 2022 regular university enrollment is announced on the VNU website and the websites of VNU's member/affiliated training units.
- This year, the Ministry of Education and Training has many new points in the admission guidelines. Can you note some important points for candidates?
Candidates should note that from July 22, 2022 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20, 2022, candidates can register, adjust, and supplement their admission wishes an unlimited number of times. Registration of admission wishes for admission methods must be done online on the System or on the National Public Service Portal. Candidates use the granted account to process information (enter, edit, view) of candidates' information on the System. Candidates' wishes for admission to majors and admission methods at all schools are ranked from 01 to the end (wish 01 is the highest wish); All admission wishes of candidates according to the school's admission methods are processed on the System and each candidate is only admitted to the highest wish among the wishes registered and eligible for admission.

- Professor, what are the differences in training and learning environment at VNU?
First of all, VNU has the longest tradition in the country with its predecessor being the University of Indochina. Up to now, VNU has a history of more than 100 years with many outstanding alumni who have contributed to the process of building and defending the country. In particular, many of them also hold key and important positions in state agencies, authorities and key economic enterprises and groups of the country.
Another special feature of VNU's training is the dual degree program. VNU is the unit that offers the most dual degrees to students in Vietnam. All VNU students have the opportunity to study for dual degrees at faculties and schools such as: University of Foreign Languages, University of Education, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, International School, Faculty of Law... During the same period of study, students can receive two university degrees upon graduation and also have more advantages to apply for jobs after graduation. However, students should note that studying for a dual degree is both an opportunity and a challenge. Studying for a dual degree requires students to be highly focused, really try hard, and be diligent. From there, students will be trained in the ability to think sharply, manage and arrange time reasonably, work effectively and withstand pressure. That is the foundation for students to practice and improve themselves before stepping out of the university gate.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, VNU will begin piloting a scholarship program for students majoring in basic sciences at the University of Natural Sciences and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with a scholarship package including: free tuition, free accommodation, priority in participating in scientific research and scientist incubation programs, priority when considering other scholarships and living expenses support of 20 million VND/academic year.
Thus, in addition to the scholarship policies encouraging scholarships from the state budget and non-budget scholarships sponsored by organizations and individuals at home and abroad, students of basic sciences at VNU have more opportunities to realize their dreams with their favorite majors with this dedicated scholarship program. This will be the motivation for students of basic sciences to improve their qualifications, become good students and scientists, creating human resources for higher education levels as well as scientific human resources in the future.
- Thank you very much, Professor!
