"Contribute ideas – win prizes" with the Smart Water Innovation Contest.

The winning team of the "Smart Water Innovation Contest" will receive a prize: a trip to Sweden to attend World Water Week in August 2016. This is a key annual event focusing on water resources issues worldwide.

The competition, organized by the Swedish government, aims to address the greatest global challenges regarding water resources. It encourages young students in Vietnam to contribute to sustainable development and climate change adaptation, as well as to propose innovative water technology solutions that create tangible changes in society. Students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities are eligible to participate, as their proposals can include not only technical solutions but also ideas related to social issues.

The Second Secretary of the Political and Commercial Section of the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam interacted with students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and disseminated information about the competition.

Some areas to choose from:

  • Reduce water resource consumption.
  • Addressing water pollution originating from industrialization and chemical use (industrial activities, agricultural chemicals/use of pesticides and fertilizers, and improper waste disposal/treatment).
  • Drought/Water Shortage
  • Impact on water flow/reservoir from hydroelectric power plants.
  • Acid rain originates from emissions by coal-dependent industries.
  • Crop failure due to floods/droughts/reservoirs/deforestation.
  • Recycling water and effectively treating and controlling wastewater.

The judging panel, comprising experts from Vietnam and Sweden, will evaluate entries based on feasibility and commercial effectiveness, modernity, and scale of impact.

Eligible participants:Vietnamese students (from year 1 to year 5) nationwide can participate. Groups of 2-4 people are welcome, combining students from different majors and universities.

Exam format: written in English, 3-5 pages of A4 paper.

Deadline: April 17, 2016.
