(National Assembly Television) On September 30, 2024, Mr. Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, visited and worked at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, where he particularly emphasized the strategic role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-USSH) in enhancing digital capabilities for students.
This is part of a long-term cooperation commitment between Meta and USSH to develop the generative AI capabilities of students and faculty, contributing to the digital transformation process in higher education.

The cooperation between the two sides has been implemented since 2020, with the first phase focusing on comprehensive digital capacity development for the university’s students. This includes building a digital competency framework as a basis for training and assessing the necessary digital knowledge and skills of students in the digital era, thereby helping them become global digital citizens. This digital competency framework has been widely used by universities and agencies, organizations nationwide. The expert team from USSH is also working with the Ministry of Education and Training to develop a national digital competency framework for learners.

Building on the success of Phase 1, Meta continues its commitment in Phase 2 with the goal of not only equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills in Generative AI but also helping faculty develop academic expertise in this field. AI is profoundly impacting all aspects of social life, and as users, students, and faculty need to grasp the basic knowledge of AI to use it effectively and responsibly.
Mr. Nick Clegg shared: “Meta is honored to collaborate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. I highly appreciate the results of Phase 1, with thousands of students trained in digital competencies. In the next phase, Meta will continue to support students in accessing the most advanced AI technology, helping them develop the necessary skills to join the global workforce in the digital era.”
Both parties commit to continuing the project activities from 2024-2025, focusing on building an AI competency framework, courses, organizing workshops, and enhancing AI skills for both faculty and students. The project promises to equip USSH students with the necessary knowledge and skills to engage in future AI-related professions, while also helping faculty develop their teaching and research expertise through the use of AI. The main activities of the project include:
- Building and implementing a Generative AI competency framework, including specific evaluation criteria to determine students’ proficiency in using AI-related tools and technologies responsibly.
- Developing short-term AI courses for students: These short-term courses will be designed to meet students’ needs, providing foundational and advanced knowledge of artificial intelligence. Students can apply this knowledge not only in their studies but also in preparing for their future careers.
- Organizing intensive AI courses for faculty, helping them effectively apply Generative AI in teaching and scientific research. Faculty in the AI era need to understand AI thoroughly to teach and assess students.
- Creating basic Generative AI courses for information management students. This course will help information management students better understand the impact of AI on management decisions and business strategies, preparing them for future challenges
- Organizing a national AI workshop to raise awareness about AI and its responsible use. The workshop will provide an opportunity for experts, researchers, and students to exchange experiences, update on the latest advancements in AI, and promote a deeper understanding of the ethical, legal, and social issues related to AI applications.
Professor Hoàng Anh Tuấn, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, also expressed his appreciation for this collaboration: “Meta has played a very important role in supporting the university in enhancing digital and AI capabilities for students and faculty over the past years. We are committed to focusing all resources to successfully implement Phase 2 of the project, thereby creating sustainable values for the development of the university and higher education in Vietnam.”
The cooperation project between Meta and USSH is expected to create breakthroughs in the application and use of Generative AI in higher education, contributing to the training and development of high-quality human resources, and positively contributing to the digital transformation and digital economy development in Vietnam.
