On October 30th, 2018, Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh had a work meeting with a delegation of leading universities from Taiwan. Also at the meeting were representatives of Faculty of History, Faculty of Linguistics, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Literature and Center for Gender, Population, Environment and Social Affairs.

The delegation from Taiwan consisted of 6 universities: National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, National Chengchi University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Cheng Kung University. Prof. Cheng-Chih Wu (President of National Taiwan Normal University) led the delegation.

On University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh introduced about 24 undergraduate programs and 72 graduate programs at the University. Among over 300 foreign partners, the University established relations with many big Taiwanese universities such as National University of Kaohsiung, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, and Tsinghua University. Responsible for studying and teaching Chinese studies and Taiwanese studies in particular are USSH's Division of Chinese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies) and Center for Chinese studies. The University also has a Taiwan Education Center with the function of promoting cooperative and exchange programs with its Taiwanese partners. Annually, the Center holds the Taiwan education exhibition to introduce study opportunities in Taiwan to the Vietnamese youth. The University is implementing the strategy of internationalization by creating training programs based on international standards, inviting foreign scholars to teach and give lectures, and increasing international publications.

Dr. Cheng-Chih Wu said the Taiwanese government has tasked the Taiwanese universities with approaching and cooperating with universities in Southeast Asia, including in Vietnam. Taiwan and Vietnam share many historical and cultural similarities, therefore they have ample opportunities to develop cooperative relations, especially in the field of higher education.

Leaders of the two sides then discussed the potential for cooperation between USSH and the Taiwanese universities through such activities as exchanging students, developing short-term and long-term joint training programs, publishing academic products, and sharing experiences in developing academic journals of international standards. The possible areas of mutual concern are: the challenges to higher education in the 21st century, the relations between Taiwan (China) and Southeast Asian countries, the internationalization of universities' activities, and the study of the Vietnamese community in Taiwan.
